We celebrated my birthday in England. Matthew took me to an Italian restaurant somewhere in Oxford Street. Oxford Street claims to be the busiest street in Europe and that doesn't surprise me. We were actually glad to be in England. At least we can understand the language. I was speaking Spanish in Italy. Surprisingly, they actually understood me. France and Switzerland were another story. Neither one of us can speak French or German. Especially German!
Our hotel at the Jury's Clifton Ford was just blocks away from Oxford Street where Debenhams is located. We were in Debenhams at least twice a day. It is a department store similar to Macy's. Now you know why. We also had dinner at a local restaurant close to our hotel. We had to try the English version of fish and chips. It was actually pretty good.
We took a city tour of London. We were able to see several palaces such as Kensington Palace and Buchingham Palace. We also caught the daily parade for the changing of the guards. It was so neat to finally see in person the things I only saw in movies: Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, Notting Hill, etc. It finally became a reality.
We had a magnificent time in Europe. It was definitely a once in a lifetime trip. As much as we enjoyed our time, we were ready to go home. The U.S. is definitely where we belong.
