DAILY ROUTINE AT SEA

Muster lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeboats.  OOD receive security report for C & R Sounding and Security Watch.

0100  •••

OOD receives hourly security watch reports as at 0000.

0150  •••

Relieve wheel and lookouts.

0200  •••

OOD receive hourly security reports as at 0000

0330  •••

Call the watch.

0350  •••

Relieve the watch.

0400  •••

Muster the lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeboats.  OOD receive hourly security reports as at 0000.

0430  •••

Call cooks and bakers having duty.

1 hour before sunrise ••

 General Quarters for Dawn Alert.

Sunrise •••

Send aloft masthead lookout, extinguish unnecessary lights.  Secure from Darkened Ship.  Secure from “Dawn Alert”.  When stations are relieved, set Condition Watch Three.

0500  •••

OOD receive hourly security reports as at 0000.

0530  •••

Call PPOs and Mess men.  Turn to:  Sweep down decks, carry out orders of the day.  Open such doors as authorized in WT Integrity Bill.  Mess gear.

0645  •••

Breakfast for crew.

0700  •••

Time signal.  Test whistle and siren, following motion of OTC.

0720  •••

Relieve the watch.

0730  •••

Breakfast for troops.  Turn to.  Carry out Plan of the Day.  Muster lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeboats.  Submit 0800 position report to Convoy Commander or OTC.

0758  •••

Report eight o’clock to Commanding Officer, and Flag Officer, if present.

0800  •••

Signal latitude and longitude when so directed by OTC.  Test general alarm (pass word “Testing General Alarm” before making test).  Troops turn to, cleaning compartments.

0815  •••

Quarters for muster.

0830  •••

Sick call.  Troops muster in own compartments.  Start incinerator.  Throw nothing over the side of the ship that will float.  Have all trash taken to trash burner, all garbage to garbage grinder.  Division and troop officers inspect their parts of the ship, particularly living spaces and passageways.

0950  •••

Relieve wheel and lookouts.

1000  •••

Daily inspection of troop living compartments by Executive Officer, Medical Officer, First Lieutenant and representative of Troop Commander.

1030  •••

Daily inspection of messmen by PPO and OOD.

1145  •••

Mess gear.  OOD receives reports.  Chronometers wound.

1158  •••

Report twelve o’clock, chronometers wound, and magazine temperatures to the Commanding Officer.

1200  •••

Dinner for crew.

1200  •••

Signal  (1) fuel on hand (2)  fuel expended to SOPA.

Signal  (1)  Latitude  (2)  Longitude to senior commander of type.

Muster lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeboat.

Turn to.  Sweepdown.

Relieve wheel and lookouts.

Relieve the watch.

Supper for troops

Sweepdown:  All hands in uniform of the day.

Muster lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeobat.  Close watertight doors and hatches for the night as prescribed in WT Integrity Bill.  Report to Executive Officer and First Lieutenant.

Relieve the watch.

Muster lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeboat.

Sweepdown.

 Secure masthead lookout, test searchlights.  Make preparations to darken ship.

 Secure from Dusk Alert;  when all stations relieved, set Condition III.

Executive Officer receives security reports from Heads of Departments.

Relieve the watch.  PPO makes 8 O’clock report to OOD.

Relieve the watch.  Security patrol inspect for darken ship and report to Damage Control watch officer who will report to OOD.  Muster lifeboat crew of the watch and inspect lifeboat.  OOD receives hourly security reports as at 0000.  Signal latitude and longitude when so directed by O.T.C.

OOD receives hourly security reports as at 0000.  Pipe down, smoking lamp is out in berthing spaces.

2150   • • •

Relieve wheel and lookouts.

2200   • • •

OOD receives hourly security reports.  Report 2200 lights to Commanding Officer.

2330   • • •

Call the watch.

2350   • • •

Relieve the watch.  Relieved OOD and Junior OOD inspect for darkened ship and report to OOD.
