
Smoke clears
away after a five-gun salvo from Turrets 3 and 4. The
primary target was the island command post, a well
fortified, bombproof shelter.
Early on the morning
of June 18, 1945, the Nevada and the destroyers Murray and Taylor
arrived of Emidj Island. Shortly after a Marine air group came over
making a strike with no loss of planes or personnel.
On June 30, 1945, the
Nevada joined forces with the California and West Virginia to become
part of a patrol that would last unit the end of the war.
