THE OPPOSITION
GRASPS FOR STRAWS

You can tell when someone is losing an argument on an issue that is emotionally important to them. They start using some of the most far-fetched ideas to bolster their case. They stretch the truth. They make fantastic correlation's. They grasp for loose threads, attempting to pull their opponents ideas apart.
One such example occurred on Bill Mahar's Politically Incorrect recently. The panel was discussing a bill that would make it illegal to transport a minor over a state line to receive an abortion. One member of the panel said that when minors are being transported over state lines for abortion, they are being kidnapped. This ideas was so ridiculous to Bill Mahar that he came down on it immediately. He said that he had been in favor of the legislation, until he heard that argument.
Was that person actually trying to suggest that all minors transported over state lines for abortions were being taken against their will and forced to receive that abortion? Perhaps he was just referring to the law that makes it a crime to transport a minor over a state line for immoral purposes. If so, maybe he thought that since abortion, in his mind, is immoral, this law applied. Either way, it was obvious that this panelist thought his case was so weak that he had to resort to the fantastic in order to win the argument.
In this section we will look at attempts to bend scripture for the purpose of condemning homosexuality. One of them is so fantastic that it should have you laughing...or crying, depending on your point of view. Another, the story of Sodom and Gomorra, has been so ingrained into our way of thinking that we rarely ever question the anti-gay interpretation of this story. These two will be considered separately, each with it's own essay. The others, a total of three, will all be considered together, in one essay. Finally, I will break the rule of three, established so far, in order to return to the Story of Sodom and Gomorra. Here, I will provide my own interpretation, one that I believe is valid. If you can buy this interpretation, it should remove all doubt in your mind. It should make it clear that this story was never intended to condemn homosexuality.
