MOUNT STO. TOMAS

LOCATION: Benguet Province
ELEVATION: 2,256 meters above sea level
LEVEL: Minor Climb, Level II, Moderate
JUMP OFF POINTS: Baguio City

INFORMATION:

Although this is one of the "2,000 meters and above" mountains, climbing Sto. Tomas is just a one day-hike. This is because the jump-off point in Green Valley is already more than a thousand meters above sea level. Although most people who scale it descend on the same day, you can still camp on its wide peak and spend your night there.

Atop the mountain is an abandoned radar station of the US Air Force. Still further on some of the peaks are cellular phone, radio and other communication antennas scattered all over the place taking advantage of the strategic position of the mountain. Sto Tomas is the highest point within the Baguio vicinity. This is the mountain you will pass by when coming from Manila via Kennon Road. From a distance, you will see two huge radar facilities on its peak.
