MOUNT ALINBAYAN
MOUNT TALIPANAN
MOUNT MALASIMBO
LOCATION: Oriental Mindoro Province
ELEVATION: not available
LEVEL: Minor Climb, Level III, Strenuous
JUMP OFF POINTS: Tabinay, Puerto Galera
INFORMATION:
You can actually climb each mountain on their own but because
of the "easiness" of each climb, mountaineers who
travel to Puerto Galera opted to scale the three mountain
into a one big expedition worthy of the time and resources
of going there. The three mountains plus Mt. Calavite on the
northernmost tip of Mindoro are the lesser mountains of the
island compared to Mts. Halcon, Iglit and Baco. Nevertheless,
you can still scale one of the three mountains if you would
prefer.
Among the three, Mt. Talipanan is one of the most frequently
climbed by climbers who has only a day to spare. In fact,
you will just need two to three hours to scale the mountain.
Climbing it is usually done as a side trip from scuba diving,
snorkeling or "beachineering" Puerto Galera since
it is the most accessible from the beach particularly the
Talipanan beach. We actually tried a "climbathon"
contest there and got a fastest climbing time of 56 minutes
and descending time of 11 minutes. The views from the trails
are awesome: Puerto Galera beach, Verde Island, Mindoro mountain
ranges and as far as Batangas.
