INFORMATION:
The next popular destination in Negros after Mt. Canlaon,
Mt. Talinis is also known as Cuernos de Negros or "Horns
of Negros." It has three peaks and numerous lakes formed
from volcanic vents. Standing 1,903 meters above sea level,
it is located 9 kilometers southwest of Valencia and is a
reservation area under the protection of PNOC. This mountain
can be reached either through Apolong or Lunga, Valencia;
Bidjao, Dauin or Calungan, Bacong. In its vicinity are five
lakes where wild ornamental plants and wild orchids abound.
Animals such as monkeys, civets, wild pigs and ducks abound
the place. Rare species of a spotted deer is believed to exist
only in this mountain and in Panay Island. Mt. Talinis is
the object of mountain treks by mountain climbing enthusiasts.
The mountain is covered by thick forest and is an ideal trekking
destination since it is easily accessible and has no law and
order or insurgency problems. Talinis is an in-active volcano.
