"Our aim is to link us together as we prepare for our 25th Grand Anniversary Reunion in the year 2003."

August 2002 Edition

Say Chie!!!.....

Here are some of the pictures taken during the E1 mini-reunion held at the Pangan's (Elmer and Beng) residence at Corcuera Street, Tondo a few days after Fenchie arrived in the Philippines for a 2-month visit.  We also have an email narration of her initial days back home.  Have a good vacation Chie!

Dinner For Fenchie.....

Fr. Erick hosted a dinner for Fenchie at the Pantalan ng Maynila, a restaurant ala "Fisherman's Wharf" at the Manila Bay, Rizal Park (Luneta)last July 29th. Everyone in attendance has a grand time with Fenchie judging it from the tons of pictures that came in from Paring Erick and Perlie.

Reunion in Virginia.....

Ompong sent me an AOL buddy photo album and I was so happy to see Obet Reylado in there.  Hope this will jump-start more activities in the East Coast.

Minutes of July 19th Meeting.....

Perlie wanted to update us on the plans and projects that they proposed during the latest batch committee meeting.  They have an imported member, Fenchie who was able to represent Canada in the said meeting.  Thanks to the committee for their unfaltering efforts and works and let us all help them in our small ways.  Thanks, Leah for allowing us to use your office.  More power to the group!

Newly-Found Buddies.....

We have a follow-up on Tony Ocampo who is now an Australian citizen in Melbourne who was refered to us by Dong De Guzman.   Tony in turn helped us find another batchmate from Science-1, Solomon Santos, a resident of Sydney, Australia.  Meanwhile, Perlie found another batchmate in the Philippines...Jenny Jaymalin-Isidro also from the Science group. Recently with the help of Rey Bisda's effort, we found Rioben Guzman and his wife Carlotta Carpio-Guzman (batch '77) who now reside in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

FAMILY

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think? So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?

FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

THS BATCH '78 ANNUAL MINI REUNION AND FELLOWSHIP

Fellow Batchmates:

Peace and every blessing!

Indeed, I was very sick.  I could see it in the mispelled words I wrote when I hastily sent you an e-mail last night.   Some of your of you might have been confused.   I was trembling in pain while doing it but had to
decide to move the date and inform you right away.

So, to clarify things:  The REUNION AND FELLOWSHIP HAS BEEN RESET ON AUGUST 31, SATURDAY STARTING AT 4:00 P.M.

It will be held at the Audio Visual Room of Holy Child Catholic School, Plaza Ka Amado V. Hernandez, Tondo, Manila (besides Sto. Niño de Tondo Church).  Please prepare for a long late afternoon/evening.  We will have the usual videoke and social drinking after dinner.

IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO REPLY AND SIGNIFY YOUR INTENTION TO COME.  Beng and Elmer Pangan will cater for us and they need to know the number of attendees.  I am asking my secretary to send slow mails to others.

Please reply via email or you can call any of the following numbers:
245-5417 (Teth or Melchor);  245-0801 (Anna);  Telefax 244-4154 (my private
number) or mobile phone +639178921443.

We encourage you to tag along your spouses.

See you on the 31st!

Paring Erick

Another piece of news!

Our batchmate THELMA DIWA (IV-SS Cancer) and her husband BOYET FLORES will have their church wedding on August 24 coinciding with our Fellowship and Mini Reunion. They had their civil wedding recently and decided to receive the nuptial blessing with us in attendance.   Needless to say,  our "salu-salo" will also be their wedding reception.   I just wonder as to who will catch the bouquet . . .

So,  we'll have a three-in-one celebration on August 24:  the Batch '78 Mini Reunion,  my birthday and Thelma's unique wedding.

Thus, the schedule:

4:00 p.m. -  Registration and Cocktails
4:45 p.m. -  Meeting and Updates
6:30 p.m. -  Thelma Diwa's Wedding (Wedding Song:  Torres March)
7:30 p.m. -  Dinner / Fellowship / Wedding Reception and Socials

Congratulations Boyet & Thelma !!!

MINUTES OF THE MEETING
THS Batch ’78
July 19, 2002

Agenda: To discuss updates on the proposed projects for the Silver Grand Alumni Homecoming for THS Batch ’78

The meeting started at around 6:30 p.m. on July 19, 2002, attended by the following:

Leah Espino-Ponio, Evelyn Alcaraz-Muallil, Fenchie Eugenio-Cajiuat, Ching Cabildo-Albornoz, Beng Ceña, Nelson Ceña, Edmon Liao, Rey Medenilla, yours truly and Edna Adriano-Gilera

at Leah’s new office located at the 9th Floor, Philamlife Bldg., #126 L.P. Leviste St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.

First to discuss was Edna Adriano-Gilera on the proposed Side A Band concert to be held sometime March 2003.  Tickets were initially valued at P2,000.00 ea. (with free dinner), P1,000.00 ea. And P750.00 ea.  Rental for the proposed venue (Music Museum) is pegged at P55,000.00/night.  She further reported that she was able to call the manager of Side A Band, unfortunately, he’s still out of the country and is expected to arrive next week.  A personal visit to Suburbia where Side A Band regularly sings, was also planned to personally talk to Joey G and the Manager on July 22, 2002.  Tentative concert tandem of Side A Band and Ai-Ai delas Alas was also proposed.  Edna promised to give us updates after the said meeting.

Dra. Ching Cabildo-Albornoz presided the discussion about the proposed Bingo Sosyal to be held this coming December 2002, proceeds of which will go to the church, THS and the batch.  The money that will go the batch will then be used as initial funds to finance the operating expenses for the scheduled activities.

Initially, it was proposed that each ticket will be priced at P50.00.  However, a suggestion that a ticket be priced at P100.00 with free juice and a sandwich, instead.  The group found this more appealing.  Each ticket, according to Ching entitles the bearer for eight (8) games.  Proposed prizes were:  two (2) P2,000.00s, three (3) P3,000.00s, two (2) P5,000.00s and the grand prize would be P20,000.00.

Beng Ceña also suggested to have some raffling of  tickets

It was also tackled during the meeting to nominate partners for the Publicity Committee.  Some of the attendees on this meeting said that this committee should now be working on the memorabilias, write-ups, etc.

Proposed schedule of activities:

Grand Silver Alumni Homecoming – Oct. 25, 2002, Nov. 29, 2002 or Nov. 22, 2002 (final decision will come from the Toronto people c/o Fenchie).

Family Day – A week before or after the Grand Silver Alumni Homecoming

Medical Mission - April 2003 (should be a Sunday)

Discussed also were the proposed student concerts at THS (c/o Malou Santos), official t-shirt for all the members of the batch (c/o Ching) and registration centers to be more accessible to some members of the batch as follows:  Office of Father Erick (Sto. Niño Parish Church), THS (c/o the Alumni Coordinator), Makati (c/o Perlie Gonzales and Leah Ponio) and Edna’s place (TBA).

As there is nothing more to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:50 p.m.  Snacks were served.
