Mages – the newest addition to Valdemaran ranks.

For an incredibly long time in Valdemaran history, the country was "shut off" from all non-Heraldic-magic. With the onslaught of the "Mage Storms" (ripples of catastrophic magic through time), however, the country was opened to the world of magic they had been sheltered from all those years. Herald Elspeth insisted that they build such a school within the palace walls, creating another Collegium to train gifted individuals – it was either that, or see how they turn out on their own. Needless to say, the Queen decided that no one wanted to see how powerfully mage gifted individuals would wittingly or unwittingly wreak havoc if left untrained and rampant.

Mages from the other schools of magic have traveled long and far to take place in the new Mage Collegium. Other schools of magic include Blue Mountain, White Winds, etc.

There are various levels of mages – from apprentice, to journeyman, to master, to adept.  Adept mages can reach into "nodes" – or magical pools – to bolster their strength, whereas masters can only use the weaker ley lines - the 'streams' that connected the magic pools – and those lower than master can tap into none of these.  Strength, more often than not, has nothing to do with who wins in a battle, however – it is not uncommon to hear of a mere journeyman defeating an adept, simply because the journeyman was able to utilize his magic more skillfully and creatively.

Though entirely new to the ranks, the Mages are a welcome addition in this newly released world of magic in Valdemar! Full mages in the Collegium wear robes of golden brown, whereas the Trainees don garbs of pale yellow.
