Regular Season
Game #1 - 04/21, 12pm - HOME vs Ice Queens
Courtesy of Mary
The Rebels did a lot better than the Sharks today... We won 13-1.
First period ended 4-0 with goals from Elise, Linda,
Joan and Carole (in that order). The other team had
a high sticking penalty.
We worked on our passing in the second period, but Cara (the Ice
Queens' goalie) had no defensive help. She faced 70 shots from
the Rebels. Second period Rebel goals by Elise (2), Carole (3),
Linda (2), and Colleen (1) for a total of 8. The other team
scored one; Linda had a penalty for interference. This was a bogus
call, she was not even near the girl who fell over. The game ended
at 12-1.
The other team shot first and missed their penalty (Katherine
saved). I shot our penalty and scored on Cara. Final score, 13-1.
Game #2 - 04/28, 12pm - HOME vs Polar Cats
The Rebels hit the ice skating as it was not long into the first
period before Linda gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead. The Polar
Cats later aimed a puck passed Katherine to tie the score
at 1-1 before going into the break.
The Rebels' second period play seemed to lack its normal coordinated
team effort as the Polars Cats scored four unanswered goals. Finally,
Jeanne broke the Rebels' scoring drought to make the score
a 5-2 final in a losing effort.
05/05, 12pm - HOME vs Hot Biscuits
The Rebels jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on a pair of goals by
Elise and Joan score from the left side of the crease
on a set-up feed by Mary between the circles.
The second period began with the Hot Biscuits charging back
with two scores to pull within one. Then J.J. slapped home
the fourth goal and the game winner for the Rebels inspite of
another Hot Biscuits score by Nikki.
Katherine gave up a penalty shot goal to MaryAnn but recorded
her second win of the season with a 5-4 Rebels' victory.
05/12, 1pm - HOME vs Ice Queens
The Rebels moved out to a quick 5-0 lead on the Ice Queens
and double duty netminder Cara on a pair of goals by Elise
and Lina and a solo score by Carol.
Carol picked up her second goal to extend the Rebels' lead to 6-0.
Then the Ice Queens scored on a two on none play as Katherine
came out of the net to challenge the players. The initial shot was
blocked and the followup was lifted over a down Katherine but hit
the right side of the net. A combination of hesitation and crease
traffic eventually ended the shutout on a tap in score. However,
the Rebels continued to skate on as hat trick goals were scored by
Elise and Lina with solo scores by J.J. and Jeanne to
end the period and the game with a 10-1 final.
05/19, 1pm - HOME vs Polar Cats
The substitute filled Polar Cats played the Rebels to a 2-0 lead
before Jeanne scored the Rebels' first goal. The first
period ended 3-1 favoring the Polar Cats.
The Polar Cats continued to score and had a 6-1 lead when
Linda powered her way into the offensive zone to break a
string of four uncontested scores by the Polar Cats. The Rebels'
goal was the last score by either team for the period as the game
later ended in a 6-2 final and Rebels' loss.
06/02, 1pm - HOME vs Hot Biscuits
The Rebels returned to a 6-player lineup for the day as Jeanne
was not able to make it to the game. We hope to see Jeanne at our
next game.
Going with six players did not hurt the Rebels at all. In fact, the
team showed veteran signs of continualty and strength at that size by
jumping on the scoreboard first on a Carol goal. The Hot
Biscuits scored the next two goals before Joan tied it up
at 2-2. The Hot Biscuits switched goaltenders as Cara was filling in
until their regular netminder suited up. Lina and J.J.
finished the first period scoring for the Rebels to make it 4-3 favoring
the Rebels into the break.
Lina started the second period with her second goal of the game before
Carol proceeded to score the next four Rebels' goals to give her five
scores for the day. Linda scored to move the Rebels' into double
digits for the third time in six games. The 10-4 final gave Katherine
her fourth win of the season.
06/09, 12pm - HOME vs Ice Queens
There are bad loses and good loses. This game fell into the good
loss category. The 3-0 losing score was closer than it looked
as the Ice Queens and the Rebels raced up and down the
ice all game long with both team goaltenders playing outstanding.
In the end, the Rebels' players agreed the number one star of the
game belonged to Ice Queens' Cara as she played a career
best game in net to receive her first shutout game. Great job,
Cara!
06/16, 12pm - HOME vs Polar Cats
The Rebels began the first period a little flat and the Polar
Cats took advantage by scoring two goals in the period with
the first scored on a shot by Cara high above the face-off circles
and dropping in behind Katherine after hitting off of the
top left post.
The Rebels scored first in the second period on a Carol
score from a Joan rebound shot. Joan scored the Rebels'
second goal, on the same shift, to tie the game before the Polar
Cats countered to make the score 3-2. Carol and Elise
scored two of the next three goals as both teams move the puck up
and down the ice and combined to score three goals in less than
a minute. Joan broke the 4-4 tie with her second goal of the game
as Jeanne and Mary tied up the opposition defensively.
Meanwhile, Linda was all over the ice tying up sticks and
guarding bodies defensively while setting up breakout passes for
scoring opportunities.
Katherine stopped the game's lone penalty shot to to preserve
the 5-4 Rebels' victory.
06/23, 1pm - HOME vs Hot Biscuits
In a rare appearance, MaryAnn filled the seventh spot on the
Rebels' bench due Carol H. not feeling a 100 percent after
taking a puck shot to the foot earlier in the week.
Jeanne put the Rebels on the board against the Hot Biscuits
first with a quick goal on her first shift of the first period. Later
on the same shift, MaryAnn scored to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead.
As the period progressed, Joan scored while Carol S. scored
on a Mary setup pass in between two Jeanne goals to end the first
period 6-0 in favor of the Rebels.
The second period featured MaryAnn and her three additional goals while
Mary scored on a Carol S. setup pass. The Rebels' final game score came
from Carol S. on a patient backhanded flip on net. Meanwhile, J.J.
and Carol H. were playing great two way hockey to keep the puck
out of the defensive zone or were trying to setup scoring chances for
others. Katherine played an excellent game in net to preserve
her first shutout of the season in the 11-0 victory.
06/30, 1pm - HOME vs Polar Cats
This week's Guest Rebels were a skating Nikki (replacing Tanya
and her sore ankle) and Cara (out of town Katherine) in minding
the net.
The Polar Cats scored first on shot lifting score by Lisa.
Carol tied the game at 1-1 moments later before Lisa made her
second goal to take back the lead for the Polar Cats. Linda
ended the first period scoring with a goal to tie the score 2-2 at the
break.
Nikki gave the Rebels their first lead of the game shortly into
the second period. Then the Polar Cats countered with two goals to
take a 4-3 lead. Midway into the period, Linda scored her second goal
to draw the Rebels even at 4-4. Next, Nikki scored on a Joan
rebound shot to give the Rebels a 5-4 lead. As the period was winding
down, the Polar Cats broke out a pass to an up ice moving Vikki
who in turn took the puck into the attacking zone for the game's final
goal and game tying 5-5 score final.
Playoffs
07/07, -- Game 1: #4 Ice Queens at #1 Polar Cats --
The first playoff game of the day had the fourth seeded Ice Queens
playing at the first seeded Polar Cats. The first period ended
in a 3-3 tie.
The Ice Queens jumped out to 5-3 lead at the start of the second period
but were not able to hold on to their lead as the Polar Cats rallied back
to score four unanswered goals to win the game 7-5 and to host the victor
of the second playoff game.
07/07, -- Game 2: #3 Hot Biscuits at #2 Rebels --
The second playoff game had the second seeded Rebels hosting the third
seeded Hot Biscuits. The Rebels began the scoring as Joan made
a setup pass to Carol H. Then the Rebels went up 2-0 on a Joan
goal with an assist to Carol H. Elise scored her first goal of
the period before the Hot Biscuits scored twice to pull within a goal
of the lead. However, Elise pushed the Rebels back into a two goal lead
to end the period 4-2.
The Hot Biscuits' first shift of the second period had scored two quick
goals by Karen to tie the game at 4-4. The tie was short lived
as Joan slapped the puck toward the net and Elise tipped it in for the
goal ahead score. Minutes later, Jeanne scored on a puck shot
from the top of the left face-off circle. The Hot Biscuits scored to
make the score 6-5 but Carol H. and Elise scored to extend the Rebels'
lead. Minutes later, the Hot Biscuits' Mary Ann and Karen
scored before Jeanne made her second goal of the period to give the
Rebels a 9-7 lead.
As the period was winding down, Carol S., J.J. and Mary,
playing excellent two way hockey all game, jumped up and fell back as
needed to alter the flow of the Hot Biscuits' game. Meanwhile, two of
the final three goals of the game were scored by the Hot Biscuits but
the most important goal of the game, the game winner, was scored by
Joan for the 10-9 regulation score lead.
Cara preserved the win to advance the Rebels into the Championship
game by stopping Colleen's penalty shot for the Hot Biscuits.
07/14, 12pm -- Championship Game --
Player Vacations Alter Games
The Rebels were looking forward to their Championship game
against the Polar Cats but it was not to be. The Rebels
were given the HTHL 2001 Spring Championship trophy on a 1-0 forfeit
victory over the Polar Cats due to illegal lineup at the start of
the game as defined by league rules. The Polar Cats were not able
to place on the ice the minimum number of roster skaters to start
the game.
Not only did the Championship game get impacted by missing players,
the Consolation game between the Ice Queens and the
hosting Hot Biscuits suffered the same fate as the Ice Queens
could not support the minimum number of roster skaters to start the
game. The Hot Biscuits received the 1-0 forfeit victory for its
appearance in the Consolation game.
The Games Play On
With both games resulting in forfeits, the first game went on as
scheduled with the Rebels playing against the Polar Cats'
available skaters and subs. Elise scored the Rebels' lone
goal against three scored by Vikki for the Polar Cats. In the
end, the game had the make-shift Polar Cats winning 6-1 over the
Rebels.
In the second game, the Hot Biscuits wore their red away
jerseys and played against the Ice Queens' available
skaters, Rebels' Elise and Mary and anyone still wanting to play
from the first game. The final score had the Ice Queens outscoring
the Hot Biscuits 9-6 with both teams scoring five goals each in
the second period.
