Personal History: Helen was born on Prince Edward Island and lived there for much of her child and teenage years until her father, a university professor, moved the family to Vancouver. It was there that she met Charles Flynn, and had already been teaching for one year when they married. When they moved to Victoria, she took a part-time job teaching History at the Stancliff Academy, leaving her young children at the growing play group with her good friend Maureen Marshall, and later Maureen and Arlie Marshall. When the last child was in school full time, Helen went to work full-time-eventually upgrading her education enough to allow her to become first vice principal, then principal. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the treatment made her too sick to work. She hopes to be able to return for the '99/2000 school year.
