The AVP board currently consists of a 13 person Committee which meets monthly and other times when the need arises (currently in "campaign" mode we meet fortnightly).
The "nitty-gritty" of the AVP's work is conducted by a series of Working Groups.
Jill Wood & Greg Adkins
(Co-Convenors)
Jill is an Inspector in the Victoria Police Force. She has been in this job for 30 years and has worked in most areas. She is currently working with the Chief Commissioner of Police on Equity & Diversity and was formerly the Training Inspector in Region One, stationed at Prahran. Jill was one of founding members of the pre-curser to this incorporated AVP and she is a former President of the Gay and Lesbian Police Employees Network (GALPEN) (five years) and has been very active in promoting & establishing relations between the Police and the GLBT community.
Greg is a former sexual assault counsellor advocate from the CASA network (The South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault at Southern Health), who moved in February 2003 to become Team Manager in the Health Innovations Program at Inner South Community Health Service developing health services for street sex workers. He has a long committment of advocacy and community leadership within the glbt communities and in the broad community as well, and was previously employed as a health educator at VAC/GMHC.
Adam Battat (AVP Secretary)
Adam moved into the Secretary's chair in early 2001, and has represented the AVP at a range of public forums including university campus forums & discussions.
Katrina Everingham (Co-Treasurer)
Katrina has been involved with the AVP since June 2000. She works as an Instructor in
an ATSS (Adult Training Support Service) with adults with intellectual disabilities. The AVP has been her first involvement in a gay/lesbian community group. She is enjoying playing an active part in this worthwhile cause after being on the receiving end of homophobia and hate speech.
Marnie Benney (Co-Treasurer)
Likewise, Marnie became involved with the AVP in June 2000. Marnie currently utilises her considerable talents at the City of Darebin. The AVP has been her first involvement in a gay/lesbian community group. After the first few meetings quietly trying to find her place, it is now hard to keep her contained! Marnie is personally fully supportive of the AVP after being subjected to homophobic attitude first hand.
Gilbert Maulette (Committee Member)
Gilbert has completed his social science degree student and is a Vicfit accredited Aerobics Instructor. A former part-time Electoral Officer for the Federal member for Holt Anthony Byrne MP, Gilbert
was the Founder and organiser of a gay men's social and support group in the south-east suburbs of Melbourne for 7 years (Smalltown Guys). He has 17 years of experience in international, commercial and corporate banking. Gilbert completed a tertiary student placement with the VAC/GMHC in their Community Education program during 2001. His aspirations are "the recognition of equal rights under the law and within society for the GLBT community and its people throughout Australia, free of discrimination, homophobic violence
and persecution". Gilbert aspires to make a difference and make significant advances for not only the GLBT community but other marginalised groups within our community through his future role as a Welfare/Community worker. "It is my fervent belief that significant advances will be achieved for the recognition of equal rights and protective laws for the GLBT community.
Through the dedication and hard work of members both within the AVP and with the collaborative efforts of other GLBT organisations & community working alongside with the wider community and in consultation with various Government this will be a reality".

"My aim in my role as the Regions 1 GLLO is to ensure issues affecting lesbians and gay men are adquately addressed by the police; to liaise with GLBT community members and to provide a direct line of contact between the community & the police".
