Not only does the AVP hopes to bring about change in the community, we WILL do this. How? By conducting education campaigns directed at the general community as well as within the GLBT community. This process began in January 2001 with the AVP’s Midsumma Festival ‘Forum on Violence’ and continues to this day. The initial forum was designed to generate discussion about the issue of homophobic violence and consider ways in which the GLBT community can mobilise to fight it.
The AVP continues seeking project and recurrent funding from the government and other bodies. Our first successfully funded project is a poster campaign supported by the Reichstein Foundation. This campaign builds on the knowledge established by the NSW Anti-Violence Project (now part of the AIDS Council of NSW) "Homophobia: What are you scared of?".

The AVP continues seeking government funding. When funded we will set up an office and expand our reporting and referral system for GLBT people who are victims of violence. We believe that an expanded AVP reporting service is essential as GLBT people have traditionally not trusted the police enough to make complaints. This service would also provide the GLBT community with more accurate statistics on the levels of homophobic violence and harassment.
