Di is a Chinese Flute. It is the most popular Wind Instrument. Its origin can be traced to seven thousand years ago when the first Di was made of a bird bone.
The Di we see today is made of bamboo. It has eight holes, one for the mouth to blow, one for placing a thin piece of reed, and the other six are for fingering to vary the pitch. It is blown horizontally rather than vertically. Di is famous for playing Solos. In modern China, more than three hundred Solos Pieces are written. Famous Solos Pieces are "Mu Ming Xin Ge", "Wu Bang Zi", "Gu Su Xing", etc.
Chang Mo Di is a member of the Di family. It produces long and mellow notes and is capable of depicting the flow of thoughts and emotions.
