Yup. Bassoon, that's what I play. First of all, lets get one thing straight, Bassoon Rules, PERIOD. Sorry. Just kidding. I like to have a joke here and there. Dictionary explanation:

bassoon: n A low-pitched double reed woodwind instrument having a long wooden body

Now I'm sure that that explanation REALLY helps you, right? You're thinking "Whatever" Here's MY deffinition:

The bassoon is a low pitched instrument, and total is around 8 ft. long. It is doubled back on itself, and that makes it look REALLY weird. Not that weird is bad or anything. The bassoon is really cool because it is not your average woodwind instrument. It's a double reed. (ooo...aahhh) Let me explain: a clarinet and saxaphone have one reed, double reeds have two. One on top of the other. Almost like a "mouthpiece" Clarinet players and sax players have fool around with those stupid ligatures to get the reed on. We double reed players don't have to. (Yay!!!!) The Bassoon and Oboe are both double reeds. Then there's the English Horn (a longer version of the oboe, the pitches are a fith below the oboe) and the Contra Bassoon. (twice as long, twice as big as a regular bassoon, twice as low) Here's a picture:

You can sort of see the reed (the yellowish-brownish thing), and you can sort of see how it doubles back on itself. Bassoon is supposed to be one of the hardest wind instruments to learn how to play. The key word there is "supposed". I think it is just as hard as most other instruments, POSSIBLY a TAD harder.

Some people call the bassoon "Clown of the Orchestra" They say it sounds "funny" when the bassoon plays stacato notes. (that means the notes are short, and bouncy) I consider that as an insult!!!!! The bassoon does not sound funny, or like a clown!! But, then again, I probably don't think so because I play bassoon. Anyway, I think the bassoon is given the title "Clown of the Orchestra" because stacato notes sound fun. Not funny, but fun as in happy.
