You never send me stories
I know there is a wealth of classical music knowledge and talent out there. What I don't know is why more of it is not shared here in the zine.

Is part of the problem that you don't feel you have anything to say? Or that everybody already knows what you want to write about? Or that it isn't scholarly enough? Is it lack of time? Is it fear of being rejected?

Whatever is holding you back, forget about it. People want to read something new about classical music. Some may even want to read something old. Maybe you want to write a series of articles about instruments or a particular musician. Or a series about musicians and a particular instrument. Maybe you already have something like that on your webpage, so you could write a brief synopsis-type article that highlights some of the more interesting points and sections of the series, like a teaser, to get people to go visit your site to find out more.

Maybe you want to sing or play a selection of music and have it be available as Austrian Surfing Music, which doesn't require it to be yodeling or anything from The Sound of Music, only that it be classical in makeup. It does require the ability to save your file in RealAudio, which Florian or myself, or just about any community leader can help you with. (In fact, we have an article in the archives by CL Josh Cullen that explains how to use some free software from the RealAudio people to do just that.)

And as my friend and cohort Florian Keller was quick to point out: "..Vienna has a Rock scene. And it could be expanded to articles about dancing (ballet), history, elegance, atmospheric observations - anything in the spirit of Viennese ambiance, or people's personal associations with the theme Vienna."

We have a couple of great staff writers for Vienna Online in the persons of associate editor Keith K. Klassiks of Singapore and Austrian editor Florian of Minnesota. I do my bit as much as possible, but I'm just an editor and writer. I don't know that much about classical music, except I like a lot of it. I'm not classically trained, either, which probably doesn't surprise some of you. About as close as I ever get to playing it on my guitar is a piece called "mood for a day" by classical arena band Yes. (Do I sense some rolling eyes out there, and maybe some questions about who Yes might be? Click my pic above to hear the RA version.)

Writing for our little Internet magazine is fun, it's easy, there is no pressure, no deadline, no taxes to pay, and no batteries required. You get the experience of seeing your work published, and a little bit of recognition for it, since you will be in this zine for as long as GeoCities stays around. It would look great on your resume, wouldn't it?

The bottom line is this: If you want to write articles for Vienna Online and you can submit in WordPad or Word format, send me an email with your article and photos, and if I can make sense out of it, I can almost guarantee it'll be published. About all I ask is that the size of the article be less than 20K. There's leeway granted on the size, of course, but much larger than 20K, and I start to fall asleep.

WHAT'S NEW?--You've no doubt already seen Florian's montage on the front page. Be sure to check out his great article on talent, as well as Maurice Biron's article on weird sounds. Click the Index button to get back to the front. If this is your first visit, we have the past archived for your perusal. Click the Archives link in the left column on the front page to see them all. Enjoy your visit, and if you don't find what you're looking for, let us know so maybe we can find it. My email is below, and I will answer all serious inquiries. Thanks.
