First | Previous | Next | Current Friday, December 17, 2004--"Studying" for "EE120". The practice exam was ridiculously easy. Unfortunately, Anantharam has a bad habit of giving us easy practice tests and hard real tests, as opposed to the other way around. Damn! Wish me luck! My GPA depends on this. On this day: In 2003: Tracy and the CS61a final... you had to be there... read it up on the 11th Journal Archive. So yesterday, Minjung told me she would be going home last night, but then I see her today on the way down the stairs. So apparently, she didn't go home. That and, she saw me, so she knows I know that she didn't go home. And I know she knows I know that she didn't go home. And she knows I know--ah, screw it! But the point is, I have been given some misinformation. At least she said hi to me on the way down, but that just might have been because I caught her off guard. Oh, well. It could be worse. It could be [name deleted for no apparent reason]. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 G O O D N I G H T ! Thursday, December 16, 2004--EE105 Final... not as hard as the practice problems, but certainly not easy. Fortunately, I solved 5 and a half out of 7 problems. Later, after the final, I realized that I had left my jacket in Sibley, so at 3:30, I went back and fetched it before heading to chill in the Soda HKN office, where Casey was playing WoW. He was fishing. Me: You know, that would be funny if that was the trailer for WoW. The greatest MMORPG in stores now! *shows screenshot of dude fishing* They also tried to tempt Tanya (who is an avid MUDer and casual RPGer) to play WoW, but she resisted temptation in favor of her studies. EE122 Final... 150 GSPP is a cool place, yo! They have these 4 continuous desks curled into circles. It's like, Dante's Inferno, but with only 4 circles instead of 9. On this day: In 2003: "Some of us are older than we are." In 2002: I start doing Limericks on my website. ...which I will not reinstate any time soon, because from past experiences, my readership (all 2 of them) doesn't like Limericks. Although if you have a good one, do submit it so I can post it on the sporadic "Limerick Time!" event. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10 *Explode!* Good Night! Wednesday, December 15, 2004--I don't remember much of what I did today, but I know it involved "studying" for EE105 and EE122, both of which have finals tomorrow. On this day: In 2003: "One years ago, Mary was one years older than Mary was one years ago." Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 *stab* Good Night! Tuesday, December 14, 2004--(NOTE: This article was on time... wait...) On this day: In 2003: "Could you please tell your Away Message to shut the fuck up?!?" In the morning, I delivered the rest of my Christmas cards, but now I have four extras that I printed because... well... it's good to have extras. CS61c Final... it was slaughter! ...meaning that I slew it. Coming back, I watched some Naruto and slacked off for a while. In a moment, I'll start memorizing formulas for EE105, like Cdb = (CjWLdiff + Cjo(W + 2Ldiff))/sqrt(1 + Vdb/Vb). Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7 *poke* Good Night! Monday, December 13, 2004--(NOTE: This sauce was redeemed 1 day late...) I spent much of today watching Naruto even though I should have been "studying" for "CS61c", but then I "studied" and did a practice final in less than half time anyway. On this day: In 2002: Emma Heffernan makes her first uncensored appearance in my Journal. Also, I delivered some Christmas cards. In particulary, while Sarah was showering, I slipped a Christmas card under her door. (Err, her room door, not the shower door.) Later, while I was in the bathroom, she wrote a thank you note on the whiteboard outside my room. Yay! Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 5) Total: 9 *burp* Good Night! Sunday, December 12, 2004--(NOTE: This sautee was recovered 2 days late...) The only thing worth mentioning is that for dinner, I went to chill with the TBPeople at North side and had a burrito. Then, as things drew to a close, me and Tiffany were going to walk back down to southside, but then Nathan and I forget who else were going to come with us, and then Tracy had a car, and was going southside, so we all hitched a ride. There was some shady business. Nathan: "You hit the breaks really really hard, right?" If you don't understand, too bad. Apparently, Tracy is an crazy driver. So there you have it, Tracy drives me insane. (Actually, to be grammatically correct, I'd have to say, "Tracy drives me insanely", but whatever.) Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 6) Total: 7 *shrig* Good Night! Saturday, December 11, 2004--(NOTE: This entree was discovered 3 days late...) TBP Officer elections... I ran for Historian on a platform of Mischief and failed. Then, I ran for a membership in the IT committee, which wasn't contested, so I got in. Tracy got elected to Pimpdrel. Then, I went to HKN Initiation, during which Tanya showed me that the slideshow took 500 megs of memory. Whoops! Then was the HKN Banquet at the Mandarin, which was good, although not as mushroomie as the TBP Banquet, but the slideshow was funnier! Especially when they did the Final Fantasy jokes. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10 *sigh* Good Night! Friday, December 10, 2004--(NOTE: This entry was delivered 4 days late...) Last day of classes! Yay! CS61c Lab... ping and traceroute... like a dumbed down version of EE122. CS61c Lecture... Me (to William): I'm not going to EE122 Discussion. I mean, come on, it's the last day of classes! So now I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! Then, I went to help out at the TBP Initiation. Apparently, I am very good at threading ribbons into miniature Bents. TBP Banquet at Dragon 2000. The theme was mushrooms. Sanjay: Yo, Eddie! Did you bring your mushroom cake? Eddie: No. Sanjay: Too bad. I was looking forward to it. Me: I'm looking forward to the red mushroom with white polka dots. I want to grow double my size! Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 5) Total: 7 *yawn* Good Night! Thursday, December 9, 2004--Overslept, but I managed to stumble into EE105 class at 10am. Cari stumbles in 30 minutes later. EE122 Lecture... Music 26ac Lecture... I'm gonna miss Miss Kim... Tired... I'm considering skipping Fencing today. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 2) Total: 7 Good Night... Wednesday, December 8, 2004--I overslept and thus, as a result, missed the last EE120 Discussion and the last CS61c Discussion. CS61c Lecture... but we have one more on Friday... (lunchbreak) The last EE120 Lecture... Tracy left early and woke me up. Umm... that's because I was sleeping. EE105 project... PSpice won't stop disagreeing with me. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Good Night! Tuesday, December 7, 2004--In my guestbook, Albert writes: "When were you such a big football fan?" Since Cal vs USC 2003, simply the best Football game ever. EE105 Lecture... EE122 Lecture... (lunchbreak) Music 26ac Lecture... I gave Kim my Christmas Card. Yay! TBP Potluck while we read candidate essays. Karen can roll her tongue 3 times. It was amusing. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 *yawn* G o o d N i g h t ! Monday, December 6, 2004--There is an addendum on Saturday, a tribute to Geoff McArthur, Cal Bears' Wide Receiver, who broke his leg in the game against Southern Miss. It will be placed in a silver box. On this day: In 2002: Jessica Lu copies my homework... photocopies, that is! EE105 Discussion... skipped in favor of finishing Music 26ac reading... CS61c Lecture... EE120 Lecture... Music 26ac... Here's a brief, biased bio of Nadia: Name: Nadia Descriptor: Mood swingy girl; recently dismissed by Dwayne as too whiny, although they still get along; for some reason, takes interest in Dwayne's social life (unknown whether this is for social politeness, or because it somehow amuses her). The story of the day, however, is fencing in the storm. Okay, that was a lie. I didn't fence in the storm per se, but rather I walked through the storm to go fence in the RSF. And even that isn't the big story. The big story is what happened afterwards. It was a dark and stormy night. No really, it was! The rain was pouring. The wind was howling. I had just come out of the RSF, and in attempts to keep warm, I start buttoning up my jacket as I walk down the street. However, when I get to Telegraph, I decide to check the time, but lo and behold, my watch is missing from my wrist. Apparently, the wind had blown it off while I was fiddling with the buttons on my jacket (the velcro strap's grip has loosened over the years. So I start backtracking, scanning the ground for any sign of my watch. After walking all the way to the RSF, I still haven't found my watch, so I back-backtrack to Telegraph, still scanning the ground for my watch, and still I can't find it. So at this point, I give up, and I start heading back to the dorms. I think to myself, it really was a crappy watch anyway. It's getting old. The timekeeping is far from accurate, and the watch suffers from glitches that I can't even begin to describe. And of course, that loose strap makes it really hard for me to keep on. Maybe it's time I get a new watch. Hell, Christmas season is coming up, I could get someone to buy me a new watch. That would be so awesome. And at that point, I stop walking, and I stop thinking, and I think about just how long I've had that watch. Since sometime in high school, no doubt. It's been so long, I don't even remember anymore. I've kind of always had it with me, and throughout the years, it's run out of batteries twice now, and rather than buying a new, better watch, I shell out a good $10 to have the battery replaced. Even though the watch strap isn't very reliable for keeping the thing on my wrist (as we have seen today), and even though I've thought about getting a new watchstrap, I've always kept the old velcro. I've lost that watch so many times, but it was always within my home, where after a little digging, I'd eventually find it. (The blue color makes it blend in with my blue and black couches.) The thing was, I was always so insistent on finding my watch before doing anything, even if it wasn't vital for me to know the time. I suppose my watch has much sentimental value to me. It's more than just a timekeeper. It's a comforter. It's a safety item. It's the inanimate object version of a close friend. It's a part of myself. I can't simply give up on it. I have to go back and find it. So I turn back around, despite the cold, despite the rain, despite the wind, and I head back to the RSF, seeking intently for my watch. And I find it. It's sitting on the ground, soaking in the rain, rolled up neatly as though it had been waiting the whole time for me to return. I'm so filled with joy that I whisper, "Thank you, god," even though I don't believe in god. I suppose there's a lesson in this. Actually, there are many lessons, but two stand out to me in particular. First of all, I almost gave up on finding my watch. However, I decided to go back and make one more search. I had been obsessive in finding it before. Other than the environs, what really had changed? It was because of my perserverence, because of my faith that I was able to find my watch. So the first lesson is this: Fate rewards the faithful. Secondly, note that at first, I was searching for my watch with the consideration in mind that I could simply get it replaced, and I couldn't find it. It was only until I realized that the watch was more than a timekeeper did I find it. I had to accept what I had rather than wish for more before my watch was returned to me. So the second lesson is this: Don't fight Fate, for Fate is your friend. She gives you just enough, and no more. If you fight Fate, she will keep taking away from you until you have nothing left. So yeah, all my readers, I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions from this, whether they be something meaningful or whether it be "Dwayne is a newbite!", it doesn't matter. Forgive me for being sentimental today, but it has led to one of my most meaningful, most personal, and most well-written journal entry to this date. Thank you for listening. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 2) Total: 3 It may be stormy, but I wish thee a Good Night! Sunday, December 5, 2004--Blame Hurricane Ivan! Yeah, it's official now. We missed the Rose Bowl. On this day: In 2003: I beat FF1. Anyways, other than homework, I went to Eudemonia for the second failed club Unhinged Draft, which I will not try to reschedule. So instead, I played against Phil. First, we played my Rats vs his Pristine Angel deck. The first game, I beat him with mass tokens from Gnawer, and ended with all 3 rat legends in play, for reals this time. In the second game, I massed rats and crushed him with a pair of Swarms, which give my deck the same power against removal-less decks that I had in my Relentless Rats deck. Phil says that he just had bad draws during both games. Eh, well, shit happens. Next was my Slivers vs his Endless Whispers deck. Basically, the job of the deck was to get Endless Whispers into play and, along with other cards like No Mercy and Do or Die, kill off all opponent's creatures and use them against him. Note that this generally doesn't work against creatureless decks. In any case, I beat him the first time after massing up a giant army of slivers and attacking while he tapped out on a Plunge Into Darkness, after he had both Endless Whispers and No Mercy in play and just before he was about to play Mutilate. However, in the second and third games, he managed to wipe out my slivers pretty quickly and take control of them (although I put up a good fight in game 2 until he played Do or Die) and basically killed me. Good deck, good deck. Now, I'm assembling the pieces for my Morphling Deck. Theoretically, it's the most powerful deck I've ever built (although part of it is because I've never faced a deck with artifact destruction before). Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 6) Total: 8 Until next time, Good Night! Saturday, December 4, 2004--Blame Hurricane Ivan! Yeah, the thing is, if Hurricane Ivan hadn't hit, we'd have played Southern Mississippi back in September, when our ranking was still low, so all we'd have to do is win, and our rating would have gone up pretty easily. However, thanks to Hurricane Ivan, the game was delayed until today, and now with our ranking so high, if we didn't cream them, there'd be a chance that we wouldn't make the Rose Bowl. And we didn't cream them. So if we don't make Rose Bowl, blame Hurricane Ivan.
On this day: In 2003: The birth of SiniticImpaler, the Diablo 2 Spear Barb. In 2002: "Good news is, I found the rest of the music. Bad news is, there are 20 more pages." Other than that, today was mostly homework. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 1) Total: 4 Well, that seems to be all. Good Night! Friday, December 3, 2004--CS61c Lab... Slav didn't know the material of the lab, and thus, when he wrote the project, it turned out almost exactly the same as the lab (well, the first part of it, at least). Lucky us. So I stopped by Bechtel to visit TBP and get some free donuts. (Mmm... donuts...) CS61c Lecture... On my way back, I decided to hang out with the guys. Half-way back to my dorm, I realize that there was EE122 Discussion. Oh, well. Too late. (Not really, but yeah.) Then, I played some Diablo II. Now, just for fun, I'm working on a Sorceress. On this day: In 2003: Leonard: "Wow... you code fast." It reminds me of recently, while working on my EE122 project. We were running out of time, so I decided to take Cari's half of the list. start at the bottom, and meet her half way. Cari: "Okay, I'll work until [some function]. Actually, it'll probably be less than that since you code faster than me." Interesting... do I really code that fast? Then, I went to Games of Berkeley for some drafting. Unfortunately, everyone there wanted to do Unhinged, so Will and I went to Eudemonia to play a Kamigawa Booster Draft! I don't need to tell you the archetype I drafted: Nezumi Cutthroat Nezumi Graverobber Wicked Akuba 2xRend Flesh 2xRend Spirit Gibbering Kami Nezumi Ronin 3xCursed Ronin Scuttling Death Akki Rockspeaker Battle-Mad Ronin Hearth Kami 2xCrushing Pain Glacial Ray Brutal Deceiver Yamabushi's Flame Kumano's Pupils I also managed to draft a Marrow-Gnawer, but in Limited, without being able to amass rats, Gnawer wasn't that good. I took him for my constructed deck. So in my first game, I played this kid who's name I don't remember. I think he played Green-Blue or Green-White, or some combination of colors without any removal. I creamed him so bad, I barely even remember it anymore. Record: 1-0 Second round, I played a dude named Vincent, who had a good red-blue deck. I drew the Graverobber in my opening hand, so I was trying to flip him. As a result, I wasted one of my Rend Fleshes on a Soratami Cloudskater so I could load Vincent's graveyard with one card. Then, the next turn, I played the Graverobber and flipped it into Nighteyes. Unfortunately, when I attacked with my Nezumi Cutthroat, he Uncontrollable Angered my Nighteyes. Later, he got a Soratami Savant into play, and I pretty much ignored it until he used it to counter one of my creatures. Man, and I used to think the Soratami are bad! Combined with Azusa and some land-grabbing cards, Soratami can be pretty amazing. Plus, he had a Keiga, which pretty much finished me off. (Although I did manage to 2-for-1 it with Yamabushi's Flame and Crushing Pain, thereby killing it and removing it, so it's ability didn't trigger.) In the second game, I didn't make as many mistakes, but I still lost. Record: 1-1 While waiting, we decided to play a few more games. Vincent beat me a third time. Then, in our fourth game, I began to force my way with a Cursed Ronin and a Wicked Akuba, only to be stopped again by Keiga. Fortunately, I had a second Cursed Ronin, but then Round 3 began, so I stopped it right there. I played my 3rd round against this kid named Peter, who played blue-white. I creamed him the first time, since he got out only, like what, one creature? Second game, I played a first turn Isamaru. Turns 2 and 3, I took 4 damage from it before I finally killed it off next turn with a Yamabushi's Flame. Then, it all went downhill for Peter as I got out my Cursed Ronin and Wicked Akuba again crushed him with my black pumpables. Record: 2-1 So I took home 1 booster as a prize. Interesting cards inside included Hanabi Blast, Painwracker Oni, and Iname, Life Aspect. All in all, it was fun, but I played against too many kids and not enough real matches! Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 3) Total: 5 Good Night! Thursday, December 2, 2004--Once again... EE105 Lecture... EE122 Lecture... Carise made her triumphant return, and the lecture was on worms and internet security. (lunchbreak) Music 26ac... another boring day! But I did go to HKN Video game night, where we played 8-player Mario Kart (heh, I almost typed Maria Kart), Mario Tennis (which is a funny game), Bomberman (the GameCube version was pretty good, but had some flaws, such as the lack of random start position and that powerups appear too slowly so sometimes I grab a powerup without ever having seen what it was), Super Smash Bros (apparently, I'm pretty decent with Shiek, at least for someone who doesn't play on a regular basis). Lastly, these guys were playing NCAA Basketball on Xbox, and they decided to do a Mascot game--Oski vs the Tree (does the Tree have a name?). It was hilarious! And that tree was ugly! And for some reason, Angela Wu showed up, even though she's in TBP and not HKN (and is a BioE, not a EECSer). On this day: In 2003: Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 4) Total: 7 G'Nite! Wednesday, December 1, 2004--For some odd reason, I can't remember anything useful today. EE120 Discussion... CS61c Discussion... I fell asleep and had a good night's rest. CS61c Lecture... (lunchbreak) EE120 Lecture... at the end of the class, HKN did their little course survey thingamabob. Listening at the Music Library... Dinner... Now... Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Maybe I should have compressed my entry like I did the last few days... Oh well! G'Night! Tuesday, November 30, 2004--Another boring day... EE105 Lecture... EE122 Lecture... (lunchbreak) Music 26ac Lecture... TBP General Meeting #3... Mafia Night... back in my dorm. Apparently, Ken Jennings lost today. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 3) Total: 4 Did anyone notice the irony in my "Good Night" message last night? Monday, November 29, 2004--Boring day... EE105 Discussion... CS61c Lecture... EE120 Lecture... Music 26ac Discussion... the usual... Working on my EE105 project... Fencing... (I've become lazy) Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 5) Total: 8 I'm too lazy to write anything other than Good Night! Sunday, November 28, 2004--Other than homework and making my triumphant return to Berkeley? Nothing! On this day: In 2003: I dream about Kim locking me out and refusing to talk to me. In real life, Kim reassures me. That's Kim for you! I need to make Christmas cards. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Good (but Cold) Night! Saturday, November 27, 2004--Lunch at Ariake Sushi with Justin, Alan, Mark, and Ryan. The tab was fifty seven dollars and one cent! Justin had the one penny. Then, we went to Alan's house to watch NCAA football and play MTG. Highlights include: After eating Domino's Pizza for dinner, I went back home. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 1) Total: 4 Why do I say Good Night everyday? Friday, November, 26, 2004--I got meself a USB keyboard for me laptop. Now, I have a NumPad again. Yay! On this day: In 2003: Tracy gives me her SN on one of my CS61a notes. In 2002: "If you had to be assassinated, who would you want to be assassinated by and why?" *8*Anyways, FF8 is turning out to be a lot harder than I originally anticipated. Maybe it's because I didn't get the Ultimate Weapons. Maybe it's because I didn't Draw all those Auras from Seifer. Maybe it's because I levelled up so I'm at a level where junctioning 100 Curagas is normal, as opposed to earlier in the game, when junctioning 100 Curagas is simple abuse of the system. Or maybe I just underestimated FF8. Anyways, I made it to the final boss (Ultimecia, Greiver, and Ultimeica-Griever), and I'm getting my ass kicked. I only have 2 real sources of damage--Eden (which I renamed Sarah) and Zell. Unfortunately, Ultimecia has a nasty habit of blowing up any and all GFs, so I can't rely on Eden (at least not against the 3rd form, Ultimecia Griever), and I have only, like, 5 Auras, so I can't rely on Zell. Fortunately, I have a few more strategies to try, but I think I'm a hold them off until Winter Break, because I've played enough this Thanksgiving.*8* Also, I played GunBound with Carise. It was fun. My eMachines computer lags like fuck, but apparently, I still had pretty decent accuracy. (Note to self, angle is easier to control than power, especially if you're firing long distance, high angle.) Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 2) Total: 4 *yawn* Good Night! Thursday, November 25, 2004--Happy Thanksgiving!! Happy Birthday Jazmine!! On this day: In 2003: "You should go home tomorrow so I can see you today." In 2002: Thanksgiving party at Kellie's. Present were me, Frank, Kellie, Bernard, Jeffrey, Connie, Vivian, and Robin. I loaned Kellie FF7, but since it has issues with WinXP, I had to search the 'Net for some patches and fix FF7. We (me, Kellie, Connie, Vivian, and Bernard) also played some Bomberman. Highlights include: Back at home, more FF8... *8*There are 8 bosses in the final dungeons who have sealed 8 of my battle commands. So I track down and kill these 8 bosses. The last one, Tiamat, was pretty hard, but I managed to pull off a really lucky win after Phoenix kicked in. Thank goodness for Phoenix.*8* Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 3) Total: 7 Good Night! Wednesday, November 24, 2004--I got my EE120 test back in EE120 Discussion, and w00t! I did fantastically good! I beat Tanya this time. (Of course, Tanya didn't need to try this time, since she did so well the first time around, and the system is designed to bias in favor of your better test scores.) CS61c Discussion... was very empty, so we talked about Virtual Memory. CS61c Lecture... also very nearly empty. EE120 Lecture... extremely totally uberly empty... On this day: In 2002: "Bart has his 'El Barto', why can't I be 'El Homo'?" Then, I went home, at which I finished my CS61c project, then played FF8. *8*So I finally got around to beating Adel. I used a suicide blitz strategy, which basically involved me starting off with about 1/3 of my HP on all characters, then doing my Limit Breaks until she died. It was a very ugly win. Phoenix had to kick in once in order for me to survive. Nevertheless, it was still a win. Then, a few more bosses, and now I'm at the final dungeon.*8* Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Good Night! Tuesday, November 23, 2004--Today, I woke up of my own free will. EE105 Lecture... but I still fell asleep anyway. EE122 Lecture... during break, I visited the HKN office and saw Angela Wu of TBP. (Lunchbreak) Music 26ac... with Kim... we sat closer to the front than we had ever sat before. TBP Meeting... Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 6) Total: 9 Wow... boring day... Good Night! Monday, November 22, 2004--For the first time in a long time, I woke up. Err... on time, I mean. On time for EE105 Discussion... CS61c Lecture... (Lunch break) EE120 Lecture... I think Tracy's started avoiding me. Well, that's Tracy for you. (Wait a minute...) Music 26ac Discussion... And finally, I make my triumphant return to Fencing. And, I fenced with Angela. Me: You wanna fence? Angela: Uhh... Me: I'll go get a foil. Angela: Okay. Apparently, saber tactics apply very well to foil. Angela: You're very aggressive. You attack all the time. Most people just stand there. Me: Yeah, well, I'm a saber fencer. I also fenced against Christina. On this day: In 2003: Big Game 2003 In 2002: Nadia plays Justin's perverted calculator game "to see who we put in it". Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Now I bid thee Good Night! Sunday, November 21, 2004--Addendums to yesterday... Today, I mainly worked on homework. However, at one point, I took a break and went to Eudemonia for the CMTG Unhinged draft. Unfortunately, no one showed up. Losers. So I after waiting for half an hour, I went back to my dorm. Apparently, I have less homework than I had previously predicted, and the EE122 project is going a lot smoother than originally anticipated. Yay! Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 5) Total: 10 Good entry, short Night! Saturday, November 20, 2004--Cal vs Stanford Big Game! So waking up at 9ish, I get ready and then I go to the Big Game with Sarah and Aneesh and Eunice and... and... and I can't remember any more. In any case, we kicked ass 41-6. I thought the game was over when we got our 2nd touch down in the 3rd quarter and brought the score to 20-3. Stanford did not score a single touchdown. One highlight: In the fourth quarter, we had one of the weirdest drives in the history of football. We somehow made a first down like an inch in front of the endzone. Then, there was a penalty and we lost 5 yards. Then, there was another penalty, and we lost 5 yards, and in the same play, one of Stanford's dudes did a personal foul against us or something, and we gained half the distance, which brought us back to the 5 yards. Then, we made a touchdown. One lowlight: Stanford #29 kept fouling our dudes. "Hey, number 29! You're mom called. She said you suck!" Melody was two rows in front of me, watching the game, and at one point, she decided she wanted to be carried up the stands, so then when a touch down was made, they carried her up and carried her up the stands. I almost dropped her because, since she was right in front of me, I didn't see her coming up until she was about to fall on me. Also, apparently, the graduating cheerleaders were getting carried up the stands, too. They were wearing jackets and sweatpants over their outfits, though, because apparently, the administration was afraid they'd get harassed. After winning, we rushed the field, where I saw Jackie, who apparently had been sitting in the Cal Student section, disguised as a SJSU student. "That's quite a downgrade there, but whatever works for you." Took a nap in my dorm at 5:30 and woke up to monster windstorm at 7. The wind was so strong that the trees were bent over sideways. Then, the wind died and I went to get something to eat. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 6) Total: 8 And that brings us to the now. Now! Umm... Good Night? Friday, November 19, 2004--The most inefficient CS61c Lab ever... I arrived at 9:30, finished the lab by 10:15, and waited until 11 before getting checked off. I think it was because the TAs were spending 5-10 minutes per person explaining the concepts behind the lab, while the people who just needed a 1 minute check-off had to wait excessively. Whoops. CS61c Guest Lecture by a TA since Prof Garcia was apparently unavailable. EE122 Discussion... On this day: In 2002: The name "RustWyrm" is born. Sometime in the afternoon, I went to the card shops. Originally, I had only gone to buy cards and get Unhinged boosters, but I ended up drafting at Games of Berkeley instead. We were doing an Unhinged draft, and I drafted red-black, of course. I got passed 3 (that's right, three Sautes, and 3 Punctuates (but I only drafted 2), 2 Duh, 1 Deal Damage, and 1 Wet Willie of the Damned. Come on, what's wrong with you people? Nine removal. I would have had ten if I had drafted the 4th Punctuate. Other notable cards I got drafted were a foil Bad Ass, Mother of Goons (makes a good combo with Saute, "Hey, sucka, you just got cooked!), Rocket-Powered Turbo Slug. Not in my deck were Orchish Paratroopers ("IOU one Parashoot --Urk, mogg fanatic"), Mons's Goblin Waiters, Little Girl (half a white mana for a half/half), Magical Hacker ("1|= y()u (4|\| r3@d 7#][5, y0|_| /\r3 @ IVI0/\/$t3|2 &33|<"), and the Infernal Spawn of Infernal Spawn of Evil. My decklist: 12 Mountains 6 Swamps 2xFrazzled Editor 3xGoblin Mime 3xSaute 2xGoblin SWAT Team Six-y Beast Rocket-Powered Turbo Slug Punctuate 2xRed-Hot Hottie Deal Damage 2xDuh Mother of Goons The Fallen Apart Bad Ass Wet Willie of the Damned First round, I played against this kid named Alex. I don't remember what deck he was playing, but he was mana screwed the first round, so I beat him (by Sauteing him to death), and the second round, I owned him. Record: 1-0 The second dude I played was this guy named Ken, who had apparently came to play Kamigawa, but decided to play Unhinged since no one wanted to play Kamigawa. In any case, he used the the Longest Name Elemental-Wordmail combo. Funny thing was, he had 4 of both cards in his deck without realizing it was a killer combo, and he found out later. (For the record, the Longest Name Elemental has 25 words in its name.) In anycase, he killed me with one. Rather, I had to continually regenerate a Bad Ass to survive, and eventually, the pressure from his other creatures (with Wordmails) killed me. (Why does Wordmail have a pic of the Infernal Spawn's kid?) In the second game, I had a bad opening hand, so I mulliganed down to 6. That hand was all land, so I mulliganed down to 5. That hand was all non-land, so I mulliganed down to 4. Needless to say, I lost. Record: 1-1 My third bout was against this kid named Jasper, who was such a jackass about my Goblin Mimes. Seriously, it's one thing to try to trick a dude, but when it's obvious that it won't work, just give it up. It's called Sportsmanship, you know. In any case, I managed to beat him by Sauteing him, and our second game, we ran out of time, so it was a draw. Circle of Protection: Art can be annoying sometimes. Record: 2-1 Anyways, I got 3rd place and won 2 boosters and a foil Ass Whuppin', which apparently Ralph decided to give about, but of course, he's not officially on the list of MTG Unhinged release people, so *shrug*. At least I got my Ass Whuppin'. Another interesting strategy I witnessed was the double Farewell to Arms, in which your opponent would have no arms to play with (unless they wanted to discard their hand... of cards). Hazzy, a little kid in the draft, forfeited after losing both arms. Dave, in the sealed event, on the other hand. Actuall turned around and fumbled with stuff with both arms behind his back and actually kept playing despite the Farewell to Arms, which was simply amazing. He unanimously got the Sportsmanship award (even though one wasn't awarded that day). I also bought 3 Unhinged Boosters on my own. Memorable cards include: a 2nd Wet Willie of the Damned, a 3rd Duh, a 3rd Punctuate, a 3rd Little Girl, a foil Mana Flair, Rod of Spanking ("Thank you, sir. May I have another?"), the No name creature, Question Elemental, Stone Cold Basilisk, Form of the Squirrel, and Gleemax. Anyways, that's all I have for today. Hope you enjoyed reading about Unhinged as much as I enjoyed playing it. Oh, and the Unhinged set has nothing to do with the card Unhinge. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 2) Total: 8 Good Night! Thursday, November 18, 2004--EE105 Lecture... EE122 Lecture... Tiffany: Carise didn't show up today. Music 26ac Lecture... HKN General Meeting #3... the guys who created HotOrNot.com gave us a talk today about the importance of entrepeneurship and starting up our own startups... that sounded funny. Tina: I have yet to meet Tina. Anyways, for the first time ever, Kim IMs me!!!!! Wow, that's like historic, because Kim never IMs me. Of course, she asked me for help on her Physics homework... Well, at least that's better than Tracy, who ignores me now. Actually, I think this girl is actually honest when she says she's busy, but then she's also been avoiding me. CS61c Lecture... apparently the discussion is ahead of the lecture! Lunchbreak... EE120 Mudterm #2! Thankfully, it was easier than Mudterm #1, but it was still too long. If only I had 30 minutes more, I could have finished it! Later, when the solutions went up, I calculated that my score could be anywhere in the range of 54 to 80, depending on how hard the TAs grade. I'll be happy if I break 75. I spent the night doing CS61c Homework and EE105 homework, both of which I finished. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 Good Night, dearest! And Cari and I were still late. But we finished at 3am in the morning. Fortunately, After Music 26ac Discussion, at around 6:30ish, I got a phone call. I got the internship! w00t! Ashley Lau played a solo. I hadn't seen her in such a long time. Seeing the way she moves when she plays... it's simply hypnotic. So during intermission, I sneak backstage (and so did a bunch of other people) and I ran into Katty, who--with a bunch of other people--were stationed outside of Ashley's dressing room, waiting for her to emerge so they could chill. I didn't get a chance to say hi to Ashley, though. It's probably better that way, since she certainly doesn't remember anymore. Katty (later over AIM): Hey, you should be more aggressive. Push your way into the dressing room! Me: I dunno... I think pushing my way into a dressing room to meet a girl who barely remembers me is a little too aggressive. Katty: Haha, it's not like she was dressing or anything. Anyways, after returning to Berkeley, I spent the rest of the night debugging Cari's code... and we were late. Darn. Good thing, too, since there was new material to learn. EE122 Lecture... I remember how at home, if I use the uber-long Ethernet cable, I have to send at 10 Mbps, but if I use the short one, I can afford to send at 100 Mbps. At first, it confused the hell out of me, but I learned today that Ethernet requires that whenever a host sends, it has to send enough information to fill the entire network. Now, if you're sending at 100 Mbps and you have a super long wire, it takes a tremendous amount of information to fill the network, and thus, my machine just didn't want to deal with it and locked me out from 100 Mbps internet. Heh, now I know why... now I know why... EE105 Lab... no actual lab today. I just went and turned in my Lab report and picked up my homeworks and my mudterms. So much nitpicking! ARGH!! Eh, whatever, Good Night! Saturday, October 30, 2004-- On this day: In 2003: "The only thing you need to know for your exam is--naked woman!" (Now one of Alan Watson's random quotes) In 2002: Anyways UCSC Fencing Tournament Today! w00t! Going in, I expected to get totally creamed, since I'm not that good of a saber fencer. So I set my goal at a modest "win one bout". My first bout was against Tyler, a Cal cohort of mine who also wasn't that great at saber, but was doing both saber and foil today. However, he seemed to be on fire today, and he beat me 5-2 in the round robin pools. It might have been because we warmed up by fencing each other, and thus, I had ran out of steam and moves to use on him, but I won't take away from the glory of his win. Second bout was against this girl named Irene, who had, incidentally, beaten Tyler, but somehow, I managed to beat her 5-3 using a series of beat attacks and my usual strategy. Now that I had reach my goal, my next goal was to win a second bout, so I did. Next bout was against a girl named Mary, and we ended up 4-4 toward the end, but I somehow managed to get her with a point in line that she didn't even try to parry. How interesting. Now, with 2 wins under my belt (already my best tournament ever), I incremented my goal to a third win. Then, against Sean (who would end up becoming Champion in saber, I believe) and against another guy who's name I didn't catch, I lost 5-0 both times, but I didn't care because they were both really good saberists. The hours pass, and I watch Novice foil. Olek, Marvin, and Ricky all made it to top 8, so I watched the beginning of Novice foil electric. Congrats to Olek, Marvin, and Ricky by the way. They're doing really well, especially Olek, since this is his first tournament ever (and he's only been fencing for like 2 months). Unfortnately, Olek lost to this other dude who was really tough, but it's all good, since he had already done so well. Marvin and Ricky beat their opponents and make it to the semi-finals--a pair of really intense bouts. Both of their opponents were from the same school (I actually dunno which), and the entire audience was polarized into Cal and non-Cal. After two intense bouts, Marvin and Ricky both win, which guarantees Berkeley the gold and silver prize in Novice Foil. Unfortunately, I had to go fence my first saber Direct Elimination bout at that point. Otherwise, I would have loved to continue watching the Novices. In any case, I was seed 18, and my first bout would be against seed 15. I thought to myself, "There's only a difference of 3... I could pull off the upset." So I made that my goal. Unfortunately, I got started a bit slow, and my opponent (Jones) and I got to 3-3, and stuck their getting simultaneous after simultaneous after simultaneous. Eventually, Jones broke through and brought us to 5-3, where I opted to take a 30 second break. During that time, I rethought my strategy--one involving lower-line attack and attacks under the arm--and in the second half, I got 7 touches as opposed to his 1, sealing the final score at 10-6. Interestingly enough, my last touch was an amazingly clean one that just scratched the base of Jones's wrist, so quickly that the judge thought I had hit his blade instead and that the score box was malfunctioning before Jones politely explained that he had gotten hit and that I had won. So now with an upset (although not really since the difference was so small) under my belt, I'd be fencing seed 2 (Dniel) next. I expected a slaughter, so my goal was to get one touch on him. Amber said to me, "You could do much more than that," which would later prove to be most correct. So during my break, I decided to watch the remains of the Novice foil final--Marvin vs Ricky. Ricky won by a pretty decent margin. Overall not that exciting a match, but then again, matches are usually exciting only when you want a specific side to win. In any case, congrats to Ricky for winning gold and Marvin for winning silver. Finally, my finale match began. It was one high-energy match, and every time Dniel scored a touch, I'd go and score another touch right back to tie up the score. We took a 30 second break with Dniel barely leading 5-4. Then, in the second half, I pulled up to 7-5. It was amazing. It was almost as though I weren't myself, but that some force had taken over me and fenced through me nad made me good. It reminded me of the quote from MGS, where Vulcan Raven says of Solid Snake, "He fights as though possessed by a demon." That was me today. Unfortunately, at that point, 2 things happened. One, I suddenly thought, "Oh shit! I might actually win this," and became over-confident. Two, he suddenly thoguht, "Oh shit! He might actually win this," and became more determined, more aggressive, and simply more motivated. I never scored another touch as Dniel scored 5 in a row and won 10-7. Still, it was quite an impressive match. My teammates personally congratulated me. I had personally said, "That was the best bout I have ever fenced." So, yeah, I had gone from expecting myself to get creamed to winning 2 pool bouts, upsetting the 15th seed, and nearly upsetting the 2nd seed. Even though I didn't even rank in the top 8, I was happy with my result. This was my best fencing tournament ever. I suppose now's the time to start training hard for the next tournament. I still have much to learn... Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 2) Total: 6 Anyways, on our way back, we stopped at In-N-Out. It was Good Food, so I'll have to say Good Night! She made the mistake of letting the kids take the candy for themselves, and after the first group, she was all out, so she runs down the stairs, all the way down to Telegraph, and runs all the way back up the stairs, gasping for breath. Me: Did you run all the way up the stairs? Minjung: All the way to Telegraph. Me: You ran all the way down to Telegraph and back? What's wrong with you? You weren't by any chance a professional track runner in Korea, were you? Minjung: No. A group of kids came, and I ran away. How demoralizing... Music 26ac... I finished my reading questions just in time. Instead of doing the listening like I should have, I went straight back to my dorm to do my EE122 Project, which turned out to be trivial. I spent well into the night working on it, though, but I did take a break for Fencing! Angela was there. I hadn't seen her in a while. Apparently, she had been going on all the days I had not. Anyways, I've already said Good Night already, so I don't need to say it again... but I will anyway! Good Night! Monday, October 25, 2004--I've noticed that the more I deprive myself of sleep, the more I think of her... It's kind of funny. She's an EECS major. I've known her for a little over a year now, and I've always thought she was cute, but I never thought I'd fall in love with her the way I have. Last year, I did flirt with her a little, but she very quickly learned not to take me very seriously. Until recently, I had no intention of actually going after her. In fact, over the summer, I had thought that when I got back to Berkeley, I'd meet someone new, on the All Girls' (3rd) floor. I had imagined her as a foreigner--as a FOB as some might put it--from some non-Chinese speaking Asian country, a shy girl with a foreign name that flows off your tongue, but you can never get it right. Interestingly enough, I met that girl during Welcome Week. For a while, I liked her, believing that she was the girl I had dreamed up. Then, when classes started and everyone started closing their doors, I stopped seeing much of the foreign girl. Suddenly, the EECS girl came into the picture. It seemed so perfect: We had a class together, and I would always sit by her. She would always IM me and we'd talk about things both trivial and urgent. In fact, she is one of the four people who really talk to me over AIM, and of the four, she's the only one I'd actually consider asking out. In fact, in the last few weeks, she's been treating me especially well. I don't really understand it, but I can hope. Or maybe it's just the sleep deprivation that's causing me to see things strangely. Either way, I pray to god that she's the one, and that I can finally stop wandering this lonely world. End emotional-philosophical tangent. Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 1) Total: 3 Good Night! (NOTE: For the real entry, come back later. It will be on an addendum.) Sunday, October 24, 2004--Happy Birthday Cindy! (I don't even know why I say happy birthday to her, still.) So I finished my EE120 homework and went back to Berkeley, and now I'm working on my website. Later, I'll have to do my Music 26ac reading and then finish my EE122 network simulation project. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 5) Total: 9 I said, Good Day! Saturday, October 23, 2004--Whee! I'm at home! I like being at home! On this day: In 2003: Somebody writes "dwayne is so hot! I <3 U"... amusing... Dim Sum for lunch, Hot pot for dinner, EE120 homework and shopping for clothes (because for some reason my mom thinks I need some semi-formal clothes for my interview, and we spent longer than we should have at Costco)... Then, at night, we went to Kellie's, where Franklin played GTA:VC, which was amusing, and he's good at it, too. It must be his skills from driving in Initial D. Also, Kellie is a good artist. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10 Good Dreams! Sweet Night! Friday, October 22, 2004--CS61c Lab... it was trivial, so I spent most of my time working on EE122 Homework... CS61c Lecture... I spent it doing EE122 Homework... EE122 Discussion... I spent it doing EE122 Homework... finally, I get it right. After turning in my EE122 homework, I go home and slack off so hard, it'd make you cry... if that makes any sense at all. Oh, yeah, and I signed up for my classes. Heh, Tracy asked me to be her lab partner for CS150 next sememster. Haha, of course I agreed to it, but first there are some extraneous circumstances I have to deal with. Speaking of which, some one remind me about this later. Dice Roll of the Day: (1, 4) Total: 5 Ah, I've had such a good day today... Good Night! Thursday, October 21, 2004--I awakened the day to EE105 Lecture, where I asked Tiffany to check my homework because my answers were disagreeing with themselves. EE122 Lecture... I was almost falling asleep because I was tired, but the vending machine was not working, so I didn't get my much needed sugar. Lunch break... Music 26ac... Kim showed up late, so me, Kim's friend who's name I forget, and Vincent went and sat, and I sat between the two of them with a space on either side of me. Then, Kim shows up late and sits between me and her friend. Kim: Whoa, it feels so cramped in here. I'm used to you [Dwayne] sitting one space away. Me: *starts to move* Kim: No, no, it's okay. I'm just not used to it, that's all. Later, Brinner is playing some Chinese music, and Kim bursts into laughter... Me: What's so funny? Kim: Kim is easily amused today. *writes "amusing" in her notes* Well, that's Kim for you. Next, I go chill with TBP at their Resume Workshop, and then their General Meeting, where I engineer my name tag so that I'd be in Tracy's group for the "photo competition". Later, I stick my name tag on Tracy's arm. About 15 minutes later, I come back, and she's still wearing my name tag. (See yesterday's addendum for more background info...) Me: You know, Tracy, I've noticed that I have a habit of taking my stuff and putting them on you, and you do absolutely nothing about it. You should resist. Take that stuff off and throw it back at me! Tracy: Why would I resist? I mean, I like having my left arm named "Dwayne Jeng". I'm still deciding on what to name my right arm. And my legs, too. Me: Haha! You're funny. I also played poker (Texas Hold'em style) for pushups with the TBPeople. I really messed up my arms, 'cause I'm out of practice with the pushup, and I did at least 100 that night. And to top it off, I followed it up with fencing, which I hadn't done in 10 days, so now my legs are jacked up, too. MTG Mood Meter: Ow Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 6) Total: 12 Apparently, sleep and sugar are interchangeable. Hopefully, I'll get a Good Night's sleep some day soon... Wednesday, October 20, 2004--I had a dream recently. In my dream, I was talking to Jackie over AIM and she told me that Sarah (Tseng) had a boyfriend. Justin found it amusing, because Sarah could never get a boyfriend, especially since Sarah is anti-relationship or some shit I don't get... kinda like Kim! On this day: In 2003: Anika "wakes" me up after I fall asleep in the 7th floor (all girls' floor) lounge. EE120 Discussion... I got slightly above average on the EE120 Mudterm, but I still did badly. Someone whom I will not name got an 84. CS61c Discussion... dude, the mudterm wasn't that hard. CS61c Lecture... Boolean Algebra... *sarcastically* yay! *sarcastically* Lunch... saw Minjung on my way back to the dorms... EE120 Lecture... During lecture, Tracy asked me what time it was, so I took my watch off and put it around her wrist. Of course, she gave it back at the end of lecture, but yeah, that's to be expected. Listened to some music at the Music library. That last chinese song "Jehovah is Love" is good, despite being Christian. Dinner... saw Minjung on the way back to the dorms... whoa! de ja vu! And that brings us to the now! I am typing this sentence as I type it... if that makes any sense. Then I said, "Then I said, 'Then I said, "Then I said..."'" Yeah, that's one infinite recursion I shouldn't do again. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 I should stop wasting time coming up with a weird ending and just say "Good Night!" Tuesday, October 19, 2004--Formulaic entree again... EE105 Lecture... EE122 Lecture... EE105 Lab... long, but we just made our measurements and left... Music 26ac Lecture... "Hey, Kim, you look really dry!" "Yeah, that's because I've stayed indoors most of the day... that and it's not raining anymore." TBP meeting... Upon getting back to my dorm, I slacked off on the internet, then watched Fight Club. First reaction: "WTF?!?" Second reaction: "Holy shit!" Third reaction: "This movie is insane!" Most recent reaction: "That character that Brad Pitt plays is a lot like Alan!" I also went to Ben & Jerry's for some ice cream with Guillermo, Joyce, the RA Dorie, and a girl named Kat from the 3rd floor. No one else wanted to go. They suck! We could have had a Vermonster if we had more people. Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 1) Total: 7 !thgiN dooG Monday, October 18, 2004--I don't remember. Don't ask. Actually, I do remember, but only bcause it's formulaic: EE105 Discussion... Break--chilled at the HKN office in Soda... CS61c Lecture... Prof Garcia wanted all the kids to sit in the front, so we did. Lunch break... EE120 Lecture... I've decided it's high time to start taking notes and paying attention in class... so I did. Music 26ac Discussion... I met a girl named Stacy, and we discussed Chinese Music because that was the topic of discussion in Music 26ac. Listening to Chinese music in the music library. We had 5 songs, but they were long as hell. Then, I ate dinner at the GBC, then went to the Evans Microcomputing Facility before heading over to my CS61c Mudterm, which I pwned. They gave us 3 hours to do the test. I finished in an hour and fifteen, then leave with an hour to go (after checking my work for 45 minutes). Spent the rest of my night finishing an EE105 Lab... mmm... spicy... On this day: In 2003: "It looks more like a deformed Pac-man." Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 5) Total: 11 Good SPICE! I mean, Good Night! Sunday, October 17, 2004--Happy Birthday to IVY And by IVY, I mean Irene. In any case, I've got mail! (from my guestbook, actually) Name: Albert Message: And while youre at it, how about Amy, Johnny and Jamie But... I don't know Amy, Johnny, and Jamie. I don't even know Amy, Johnny, and Jamie's names! Anyways, today was the HKN Photo Scavenger Hunt. I don't remember the details, except Me: Hi, my name's Dwayne. Nice to meet you! Tiffany: My name's Tiffany, and you already know me from TBP. Me: D'oh! Also, we won! Yay! I won a stuffed Cal cow. It was a cow because HKN is the Mu chapter, so we have Mu cows. I was thinking of giving it away to [censored], but Alex told me not to, because traditionally, the girls don't appreciate my gifts. Kupo... MTG Mood Meter: Gifts Ungiven Then, I was plagued with a headache, so I started drinking lots and lots of water to flush it away, and you know what happens when you drink lots and lots of water... Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Bah... maybe I shouldn't have posted that thing at the end of Friday's entry... Oh, well. All that's important is that I get some Good sleep toNight! Saturday, October 16, 2004--Happy Birthday, Alan! Anyways, so today, I went to the Cal vs UCLA football game. What I thought was amusing was that our cheerleaders were wearing their longsleeved uniforms (it was cold today) whereas the UCLA cheerleaders went sleeveless. Also, the UCLA band knows how to play Britney Spears' Toxic, which reminded me of Daisy. During the 1st quarter, we scored two touchdowns, but in the 2nd quarter, UCLA scored a touchdown. Then, during the kick reception, our guy fumbles the goddamn ball, and UCLA takes it and uses their position to score another touchdown. That's exactly what happened against USC. Man, why do our Special Teams suck? Fortunately, in 3rd quarter, we scored two more touchdowns, and after that, UCLA's fate was sealed. We eventually won 45-28. I was bored during most of the second half, although the fans in the student section were hella cheering. I've never heard the stadium that loud before, other than Cal vs USC 2003. Dice Roll of the Day: (3, 3) Total: 6 A concise entry calls for a long drawn-out ending. Thus, I cannot simply say "Good Night!" I must... ah, screw it! Good Night! Friday, October 15, 2004--Ah, what a relaxing sleep I just awoke from... On this day: In 2003: Rubik's Cube girl--I mean Amy--solves a 5x5x5 cube. In 2002: CS61c Lab... which I finished early, and it turned out there was no CS homework next week (thanks to a mudterm coming up next Monday), so I went to the HKN Soda office and chilled with Tanya until she had to go to class. Then, I just went to the library and looked at the Microsoft College Recruiting website to prepare myself for the interview. CS61c Lecture... EE122 Discussion... I had trouble focusing for some reason. Lunch, then Microsoft Interview... I pwned! I went in feeling confident and came back out feeling confident, so it's all good. For thy records, I've decided to take next semester. Plan accordingly. (I like bulleted lists.) Tracy's sure been climbing fast on my AIM Buddy of the Month ranking. (For those of you who don't know, my Buddy of the Month thing is a cumulative thing, getting reset only 3 times a year.) Dice Roll of the Day: (2, 6) Total: 8 God Knight! Thursday, October 14, 2004--*zombie-like* Must finish EE105 homework... Which is precisely what I did this morning. It was SPICE-y. And while I was at it, I went to EE105 Lecture and EE122 Lecture, then to my Telebears Advising session with Professor Gastpar, then finshed my EE105 homework, then ran to Cory to turn in my homework, then ran to Wheeler just in time for Music 26ac Lecture... Speaking of which, I enter Wheeler Auditorium and am looking for a seat when Kim calls out to me, and awww, she saved me a seat! How sweet! That's Kim for you. (Not really.) And in lecture, we had this dude named Hong Wang and his assistant something Jie Ma demonstrating to us Chinese instruments and music. It was amusing, to say the least. Then, finally free, I slacked off the rest of the night and went to play board games with HKN. w00t! There was a scrabble game, followed by a fake scrabble board with centered around "LEET" and "HAXOR" with a whole bunch of EECS related words scattered everywhere. It was amusing, to say the least. Then, I joined a poker game, but lost quickly because I had only 25 chips while everyone else had on the order of 250. Finally, there was a game of Risk that we played, and I had awful starting position because, for some reason, I decided to play disruption and put 2 men in each continent. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 1) Total: 6 Well, not much else to do but to bid thee all Good Night! Wednesday, October 13, 2004--Last night on AIM... Tracy: Should I go to discussion tomorrow morning? Me: My discussion? Her: Yeah. Me: Yeah, you should go. If for no other reason than to boost my morale. Tracy: Hahaha =p EE120 Discussion... I prepared for the EE120 mudterm. Oh, and Tracy was there. CS61c Discussion... I prepared for the EE120 mudterm. CS61c Lecture... I prepared for the EE120 mudterm. After lunch... I took a nap... then went to the EE120 mudterm. It was horrible. Out of 100 points, people are saying that even 50 would be a good score. Bah, in either case, I need to start working hard on EE120 to clobber my mudterm with the other one. E190 Placement Test... it was trivial. I was thinking of writing either on Fourier Series or on programs as data and decided that programs as data would be a much more entertaining essay. While I was there, I saw Vincent, David, the other TBP dude, Melody, Tracy's roommate (more on that later), Abhi, Daisy, and that's all I remember. Then, I went to the HKN general meeting. I entered the room, and the first word I heard was "band-limited". Gastpar was the guest speaker for today's meeting, and for some reason, hearing Gastpar say "band-limited" reminded me of EE120... Me: Hey, Trace, at the the E190 Placement Test, I saw your friend, the Rubik's cube girl. Tracy: Amy. She's my roommate. Me: Ah, yes, I should probably remember that, huh? Or maybe not. I dunno, is it really that important that I know your roommate's name? Tracy: Yeah, I only have one. Me: I barely even know my own roommate. Incidentally, most people who know Amy primarily and Tracy secondarily think of Tracy as "Rubik's Cube girl's friend". On this day: In 2003: Anika first appears in my Online Journal. In 2002: Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 4) Total: 10 I'm so tired... Good... ... ...Night... Tuesday, October 12, 2004--EE105 Lecture... EE122 Lecture... Music 26ac... just before the mudterm, I meet up with Kim, and she's singing Roll, Jordan, Roll, and I say we should start a quartet, but there are only 3 of us (because Kim had a friend in the class), so that didn't work. Then, we take the mudterm, and I leave 10 minutes early because I got bored of double-checking my answers (because this is a humanities class, you either know it or you don't; there's no work to check). After a long TBP officer meeting, I get back to my dorm and am tired. I should prolly be studying EE120 with Tracy, but eh, you know how these things are. On this day: In 2002: I talk to Diane over AIM for the first time ever, and she blocks me. Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 2) Total: 7 You know, I'm tired, so I'll just assume that (even though it may not be) it's a Good Night! Monday, October 11, 2004--Happy Birthday, Justin! On this day: In 2002: EE105 Discussion... CS61c Lecture... EE120 Lecture... Music 26ac Discussion... And interspersed throughout the day, I studied for my Music 26ac, because I'm weird like that. I can pass technical stuff with no problem but humanities and essay writing and shit like that? Skipping dinner, I went fencing, and I don't remember the details, because when I came back, I slacked off, then did some more work for Music 26ac, that I went to sleep without studying. Good Night! Dice Roll of the Day: (5, 3) Total: 8 Sunday, October 10, 2004--Incidentally, today, I will also be talking about football. However, this time, I'm referring to NFL Blitz, the old N64 game, which my brother and I played today. He was kicking my ass for the first 3 quarters, then somehow, in the last quarter, I make a comeback and win. o_O We also played Soul Calibur 2. You can set Life handicaps in this game, and apparently, Frankie can beat me with 50% life, but not with 30% life, and apparently, I do better against Ivy (his supposed "best" character) than against any other character. Weird... Anyways, after finishing up my EE120 homework, I began my triumphant return to Berkeley... On this day: In 2002: Back at Berk, I would be working on my Music 26ac homework, interspersed with some pointless slacking off. Dice Roll of the Day: (4, 6) Total: 10 Well, as much as I'd like to stick around and chat some more, I got to go... um... slack. Good Night! Saturday, October 9, 2004--Before the USC game, I got me a haircut... so now if you see some dude who has my face, but with short hair, that's probably me. Oh, and the USC game... it was a good game. It was intense to the last minute (but the last minute itself sucked, but I'll tell you about that in a moment). So anyways, Cal came out with good offense and good defense, but man, our special teams just sucked today. During the first quarter, we fumbled a punt and gave USC the early touchdown. During the second quarter, we fumbled a punt return and USC jumped on it and got to start from our 12 yard line, and this was after USC had penaltied itself so much and we totally sacked Matt Leinart that they were 3rd down & 27. And then there was the fact that all of our kicks were short, and our team had trouble stopping UCS's Reggie Bush. And then in the last quarter, with 5 minutes to go, the score is 17-23, USC in the lead, and we manage to take the ball back from USC, and we drive it all the way to the goal line, with 2 good minutes for us to make the touchdown. If we make the touchdown, we win. If we fail, we lose. And we failed. With approximately 1:16, we failed to get the touchdown, and then USC just kneeled and ran out the rest of the clock... that sucks. It was a good game. Granted, it would have been a better game if Cal had gotten the upset, but it was a good game. On this day: In 2002: Dice Roll of the Day: (6, 2) Total: 8 So I don't sound boring, I need to come up with something, 'cause it wouldn't be right to just say "Good Night!" |
