Modern Coggeshall

Coggeshall is in Braintree district and has around 4,600 inhabitants. It lies on the River Blackwater and has many listed buildings which include two important National Trust properties – Grange Barn and Paycocke House, both of which are open to the public during the summer.

The remains of the 12th century Cistercian Abbey lie on the outskirts of the village and can be seen from the Essex Way footpath which runs through the farmyard and is well sign-posted. The Essex Way also passes the historic Grange Barn.

On Church Green stands the church of St Peter-ad-Vincula, an Essex 'wool' church which is a splendid example of English Perpendicular architecture.
Just a mile or so outside of Coggeshall is Marks Hall, an outstanding country estate and arboretum, and there are many public footpaths just waiting for the visitor who is keen on country walks .
Coggeshall has much to offer to both the casual visitor or those looking for a great place to live.
