There are many things to see and do in this beautiful village. Some are very simple pleasures that cost nothing - feeding the ducks at the picnic area by the river; walking the public footpaths; picnics in one of the three public gardens or on the huge Recreation Ground with its children's playground for the younger ones and the multipurpose basketball court and football goal posts for the older ones. A walk around the village with the aid of a Guided Walk leaflet is an ideal and inexpensive way to enjoy Coggeshall - leaflets are obtainable at the Parish Office, the museum on Sundays and at various shops and cafes in the village. As well as a version in English, they are available in French, Dutch, German and Spanish at the museum and Parish Office and have been prepared by native-language volunteers.

There is no charge for the Car Park which is right in the centre. Drive up past the blue Victorian clock tower and take the first on the left (by the library). At the end turn left into the car park - 4 disabled parking bays, two at the top and two at the bottom.
The parish church of St Peter-ad-Vincula is open during daylight hours so why not spend a while in quiet contemplation of its beauty. Don't forget to sign the visitors book and of course, a donation is always welcomed.
The museum is open on Sunday afternoons and Bank Holidays and there is no admission charge, but, like St Peter's, donations are welcome. This seemingly small building contains a real snapshot of Coggeshall's long and historic past - a real 'grass-roots' museum.
There are two National Trust properties - Paycocke House and Grange Barn - and details are given on a separate page which can be reached from the 'hotspot' on the map.
The remains of Coggeshall's Cistercian abbey are in private ownership but can be seen by following the Essex Way footpath. Please remain on the footpath as there are working stables nearby. Arrangements can be made by Groups to visit, just follow the link on the map.
St Nicholas' chapel is kept locked. Please contact the Vicar for details - his contact address can be found on the 'Churches and Services' page.
Just a mile or so north of Coggeshall is Marks Hall gardens and arboretum where there are footpaths to walk and beautiful countryside. Just follow this link to find out more.
There is the Dutch Nursery garden centre complex in West Street with a coffee shop and 'Ponyland' which has other animals besides ponies. Please click on the banner below to see pictures of the animals and the Dutch Nursery.

As well as the Dutch Nursery with plants, gifts and everything for the garden, there is a 'World of Water' aquatic centre, a picture gallery selling prints (also picture framing) and the Quality Furniture Store, a shop selling oak and pine furniture.

Across the road, a little to the west is Todd's Botanics, specializing in hardy exotics, olive trees and unusual herbaceous plants. The owners have worked on exhibits at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Open Thursday to Sunday only
Hopefully this has made you want to see more - go the the 'hot-spot' map to get a taste of the delights in store, then come and sample them. We'd love to see you and you will be made very welcome.
