  Grading Procedure:

This is an achievement based course.  A student's grade is determined by the number of points achieved on various assignments divided by the total number possible. There will be approximately 1000 possible points for during each marking period.  This means that in order to get a grade of "A" the student needs to achieve about 900 points, for a "B" about 800 points, etc..   A student's grade at any given time is determined by the total number of points that he/she has achieved at that time divided by the total number of possible points that they could have earned up to that point.  Students are encouraged to keep a log of their points and the total running points.  Students should keep in mind that the teacher gives each student a grade for class participation every Friday (that grade is out of 10 points.)

Students will earn points for homework, class participation, tests, quizzes, projects, research papers, debates, etc..  Students should never tell you that they have nothing to do.  If there is no specific homework due for the next day it is very likely that the students are supposed to be working on a long term project like writing a paper or completing a project.
