Maine--Although I like Pittsburgh--the
city of tunnels and the perpetual 25 mph speed limits-I'd rather be in
Maine. The Portland Head Light (at left) is just South of the little city
of Portland. There are plenty of great places to stay in Maine, including
the Inn at Bufflehead Cove in Kennebunkport-call at 207-967-3879. For more
information about Maine try either the State
of Maine Home Page run by, well, the State of Maine, or MaineStreet
--a commercial service provider in Maine..
When
I go to Maine, I always stop at Federal Jack's in Kennebunkport. Federal
Jack's is a restaurant and brew pub run by the folks at theKennebunk
Brewing Company. If you go, try the Old Thumper, YEEHA! For
the low down on other Maine brews and brew pubs try the Maine Brew
Guide. Or save yourself the trouble and head directly to
Gritty McDuff's.
If you're driving, you might as well figure out the fastest way there, or the most scenic, if you like. Delorme's Cyberrouter is a mighty keen on-line route planner that can get you from Pittsburgh to Kennebunkport in under 12 hours. No stopping. Also check out Cyberatlas to take a quick look at, say, Concord, New Hampshire or Bath, Maine.
To Bermuda--
Look, all the links I had to Bermuda withered on the vine, and besides, the last couple of times I sailed I was sea-sicker than a dog. So just get on your own damn boat and go. And, if you go, do remember to stop at the Black Horse Inn in St. David's-they serve the best food on the islands.
