Tales of The Immortals

"From the Dawn of time we came; moving down through the centuries, living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the Gathering; when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has known we were among you until now."

HISTORY OF THE IMMORTALS

Book Nobody is sure of where or when that the immortals began. History does not record the lives of Immortals and the Watchers Organization was not implemented until the Immortals had already graced this planet. Some theories range from beings from the past come to seek refuge in the future. Others feel that they are the work of the devil. While others feel that they are the carriers of all the knowledge in the world. This is due to their pursuit of what they call "The Prize". A weird observation and one under constant investigation, is that all the immortals in our database did not have natural parents or were abandoned. Many were found mysteriously at a family's house and raised. Nothing more is known of their origin.

THE QUICKENING

The "Quickening" is probably the most mysterious topic pertaining to the Immortals. The only way Duncan receiving the Quickening to describe it is to tell exactly what it is. From our understanding, the "Quickening" is the knowledge and power contained in an Immortal. The only way that another Immortal can obtain this power is by slicing off the head of another Immortal. This is the reason for the years of combat. We believe that "The Prize" is the accumulation of all the "Quickenings" of all the Immortals and why the Immortals are heard saying "There can be only one". We are not sure when this will all come to an end. The only sign we have is the mentioning of "The Gathering".

RULES OF THE GAME

Although it seems that the Immortals are a race of brutal killers sought on beheading each other in pursuit of the prize, there are rules that most Immortals live by. They are as follows:

  1. They can not fight on holy ground. If done so and a beheading takes place, the "Quickening" will theoretically be lost forever.
  2. Fights must be one on one. No team combats allowed.
  3. Including of mortals in aid during combat is also not allowed.
  4. In the end, "There Can Be Only One", meaning they must fight until one Immortal is the last remaining.

For the most part, these rules are sacred to the Immortals. But from our observations, not all Immortals follow them to the tee. So the merit of these rules are withstanding, except for the last. It is yet to be seen.

HOLY GROUND

Immortals like mortals can claim sanctuary on Holy Ground. But in their case, it means life and death. Combats are supposedly forbidden there. It is believed that if a person is beheaded on Holy Ground, the Quickening is lost forever. Only one case in our history was ever recorded of two Immortals fighting on Holy Ground. The event took place in Pompea, Italy before the town was covered in lava from a great volcano explosion. It is with this, that the theory that fights on Holy Ground cause cataclysmic events and many that have happened in time may have been caused by such things.

THE GATHERING AND THE PRIZE

The Gathering The Gathering as we have learned over the centuries is the time in which all the Immortals "gather" together in one place to battle each other in combat until the last Immortal stands triumphant to receive "The Prize". It is believed by us and many of the Immortals that the time of the Gathering is now. How long it will last is unsure, for many new Immortals appear everyday. We will watch faithfully until that time comes.

THE RENEGADE WATCHERS

The Renegade Watchers are a hard blemish on our pretty well oiled organization. These group of Watchers, also known as Hunters, sought to eliminate all Immortals from the face of the earth. Thinking that Horton they were an abomination to man, they sought out many Immortals, some who were never a threat to anyone, and beheaded them. This group was secretly led by one of our highly decorated Watchers, James Horton. He along with his followers believed that in the eyes of God, that Immortals should be destroyed. Their existence would never has been noticed if not for their assassination of the Holy Immortal Darius. Darius was good friends with Duncan MacLeod. Through careful research Duncan sought Horton out. Eventually in 1994, Horton was stabbed to death by MacLeod, after several unsuccesful tries before. After Horton's death, the Renegade Watchers have apparantly disapated. All those suspected have been tried, and despite his discovery of the Watchers, Duncan MacLeod proves to be no threat to our organization and its secrecy.

DARK QUICKENING

The Dark Quickening has probably been the most mysterious incident in Immortal history. No one is exactly sure how it happened or how it went away. The story goes that Duncan MacLeod Evil Duncan Holding Candle had killed a friend of his Kol'tek Duncan at Holy Spring who in his early life was a spiritual healer. Kol'tek drained the evil out of people supposedly, and taking the evil in to him where he believed that his threshold was bottomless. But apparantly it had one. When Kol'tek would not surrender to Duncan, Duncan had to kill him. In the process, Duncan took in the evil that Kol'tek had accumulated over the years when he received the Quickening. Not too soon after, Duncan started on a rampage. First in America, Duncan tried to take the head of his student, Richard Ryan. Next he travelled to France, in the process reaking havoc there. It was there in which he killed his friend, Sean Burns, a psychiatrist in Le Harve, France. Thanks to Adam Pierson, we now know that MacLeod sought a "spiritual pool" out which apparantly drew the evil out of him. Other than that, little else is known about the Dark Quickening. Our only hopes are that it does not happen again.

METHUSALEH'S STONE

Methusaleh Stone The story of the Methusaleh's Stone is still sort of clouded in mystery. The only thing we could obtain about it in concrete is that is was a mysterious stone owned by Rebecca Horne. Amanda with Crystal She broke the stone into pieces and gave a piece to each of her students. A lot of tales have arisen about the Methusaleh's Stone. It was given the name due to belief that is was previously owned by Methusaleh (biblical figure who lived to be 969 years old). The stone is believed to have the power of Immortality to the owner. For this reason, Luther, a former student of Rebecca's, attack's all of his former peers as well as Rebecca herself in an attempt to obtain all of their pieces, but dies instead at the hands of Duncan MacLeod when he goes after Amanda to obtain the last piece. We had gained possession of the Stone after this time, but was stolen by one of out own. In a deadly confrontation with Amanda and Duncan, the stone was lost in the Seine river in Paris, France and is probably lost forever. Only one piece survived and is kept safely in the hands of Amanda as a remembrance to her long lost teacher. As for the truth behind the Methusaleh's Stone, it may have been lost along with the stone. We may never know if it's Immortality power was true....maybe it's for the best.
