Mock Congress, A Student Corriculum WAR Scale = 6.5 Personally I enjoyed it alot more than a 6.5, but I had to factor alot of things in such as other peoples perspectives so... i got a much lower number for it. Mock Congress is alot of work, stress and franticness. I mean its not like you could just stand up there and say, "yo vote for my bill dude, ya.." It took alot of time and research, alot of writing and rewriting, scratching out and revising. But it was fun, standing up there, with all your information, knowing that your bill will certainly pass. That no matter what questions and arguments they bring against you, you can stand there proving that what they say is irrelevent. That is triumph, that is victory. Because work only makes the victory sweeter, stress only makes the celebration more joyous. But of course with all the people that didn't really care about what they were doing or saying, or how they are saying it. It would have been completely boring and uneventful. Maybe they didn't do the work, maybe they did do the work but this isn't their type of event. It's most likely that this wasn't their event. Because mock congress is 4 hours of sitting there listening to people talk and kinda talk somemore, oh yeah and you get to raise your hand to vote. It's staring at the people up there at the desks having fun because of their position, while you can't even talk unless oppointed. That if the "unnessesary" dicussion was carried on too long, too loudly the guy/girl up there will band the meat tenderizer to get your attention. Knowing that they are just one of you, only there is the hidden threat of inhouse behind them. It would be triumph for those of us who had their bill passed because of the hours you put into it, or it would be totally, "man this sucks" if 5 people automatically have their hands up to make an opponent speach. It teaches you how real congress is done. For those who enjoyed it, it might be a challenge that people would take on in their futures. For those who didn't, your sitting their praying that you will never have to face the torture of boredom ever again. The knowledge factor of mock congress doesn't give you much knowledge at all. I mean, we practically just followed what the little green sheet said. So the real simulation is just kinda more work. But like I said, work that made the victory sweeter. Stress that made the celebration brighter. (Expecially when you know someone has been doing frantic research to go against everything you said, because they were being paid by someone. And yet your bill still passes.) Over all, i think mock congress did a pretty good job in delivering what the real thing would be like. Doing frantic research, making impromtu speeches desperatly trying to remember your sources, sitting there forever waiting to be recongized, people making a motion and seconding it before they get to call on you. Or if your someone in "power" you get to feel important, everyone listens to what you say. So you see, it can have very divided opionions. Which is why the low score. But for me, and me personally, it was more of an 8. - Wei |
