ABBY'S STORY:
Originally
Abby went to what we thought was going to be a good show home. She was 8 weeks old when
she first left us. Her original owners took her to the vet as suggested, the vets told
them that she was a "one of the nicest puppy he has ever seen!".
When she was about 8 months old, due to some sudden work changes, they asked us if we
could babysit Abby for a while. We had her for about a month. She went home on a Friday
and on Sunday morning they called us and said it wasn't going to work and will have let
her go. With no hesitation, we immediately took her back. Honestly, she was a puppy mess!
A couple weeks later, they wanted her back. We said "Absolutely NOT!!" and
sent their money back.

At first, Abby was quite
skittish, she soon adapted to the other dogs and the new world of hunting. Since I wanted
her to go to a hunting home so I whoa broke her right away. I think I pushed her a bit too
hard as she really never had the opportunity to chase birds. Abby stood conturnix quail
and brought them back at 10 months of age, shot gun and all!
Abby is a happy fun dog, always a smile on her face!
When she was with us, she used to love to make rounds of the front yard and look for birds
up in her favorite tree. She spent a lot of time under that tree!
When she was about 14 months old, we got a call from Pete Schmidt of
San Diego who was looking for a hunting dog.
We took Hunter and Orea out to
the field to show off their bird work. He quickly decided he wanted her!
As we spoke in the house, Abby laid there quietly looking up at us as Leslie made her a
new collar. When it was time to leave, we all got up and went out the door. Pete just
happen to leave his door open to his truck.
Abby quickly made
her normal rounds, said goodbye to her tree and to our surprise, jumped right into Pete's
truck and never looked back! She knew exactly what was going on, she didn't even say
good bye to us! How's that for loyalty?
Normally we worry about how thins will work out, but we had such a great feeling about
this match. The next morning, Pete called us, he said he made a bed for her on the floor
and in the morning she was fast asleep next to him. We loved it!, He loved it! She loved
it!
Abby was finally home.........
We are so happy for her, since then Abby now has a little sister
Clementine(a pointer) and a new mommy Karen.Matter of fact, Pete and Karen met at dog park
running Clem & Abby. How's that for a match making?
Pete wanted to campaign Abby in
Hunt Tests so we trained for it. Since she was a bit too old for Junior and was already
standing & retrieving, we decided to go right into the Senior level. We also decided
that Pete would learn to handle her in competition.
Well, we had a rough start, or should I say Pete did. He, as a handler, made some typical
newbie mistakes. We disused it and Pete said that is not going to happen again... AND...
you know? the next time out, Pete looked like a Pro, very concentrated and in control.
Abby passed the next four times out! She was given a bum wrap on her 5th try. Any
way, Abby passed her next time out. She was doing close to master work when she finished
her Senior Hunter Title.
Abby finished her title by passing 5 times out of 8 tries, that is good! There are still
many dogs who competed with Abby who are still looking for that last leg.

Leslie and I thank Abby making
Wendig Haus Proud! and to Pete & Karen for providing Abby such a wonderful home!!!!!!
Pete Retired Abby from
competition but she will hunt with Pete as often as possible.
