DUAL-BLE WIN
December 7 & 8, 2002El Paso Del Norte German Shorthaired Pointer Club, Las Cruses New
Mexico
First WIN, Saturday: OGD: Hunter was on a
mission: Hunter was bottom dog in the first brace on Saturday morning. This was my first
time on the grounds and I basically just pushed Hunter forward until the judge told me to
turn. This didn't effect Hunter, he was all business in the Open Gun Dog stake (24 dogs/4
point Major) which included the current #1 Ranked Gun Dog in the country and three
national caliber professional handlers. Genaro was one of two amateurs entered in the
stake.
In the thick brush Hunter made a moderate initial cast and established himself quickly by
working from 10 to One for most of the first 15 minutes. Good range and looking strong,
but no birds. Suddenly Point is called by my bracemate, Hunter was standing at 12-O'clock.
One Bobwhite, all manners in order. He takes off and make a nice cast and establishes
himself again, looking good I think to myself. We find him again at 12-O'clock on Point.
Looking good and all manners in order. He moves on working at 1O'clock Judge Vicky
Nortington ask me to make a sharp right turn, I asked to wait until I get him turned, no
problem, Hunter made a move to the front but we lost him. We found him standing his third
bird, again all manners are in order, we move on. As I looked at my watch, it read 29
minutes and as I looked up, we found Hunter on point with about 30 second to go in the
brace. He stands the flush and shot, all looked good, The judge said we were out of time
but wanted me to release to complete the bird work, 20 paces out she says "he's
all-right, thank you handler."
Hunter was in first position in the call back and with all manners in order, was declared
the winner.
Second WIN, Sunday: ALGD: Showing no mercy,
Hunter continued his mission in the Amateur Limited Gun Dog Stake and came through with an
even more aggressive run with two finds.
His second find was a covey of five birds with one
flushing two feet from the side of his head, all manners in order.
In the last five minutes, Hunter made a huge 12 O'clock cast, Judge Bill Pearce rode up to
me, "I see him at 12-O-Clock and looking good!"
Hunter was again in first position in the call back, and again he kept his manners in
order for the win.
This was a big horseback trial, and to note, Hunter was foot handled by Genaro in the two
stakes. Two wins in one weekend, we like to think Hunter's mission was his gift to Jessie
who we lost just 10 days ago.
"Hunter, we are so proud of you and I am sure Jessie is too. Thank you my
boy!"...Genaro
