These
past few years have been rough for the Wildcat Band. This year
marks the sixth director in as many years. Long time director Ed
D'Aurelio retired in 1996. Replacing Mr. D'Aurelio was Joy
Baum. Joy spent the year acting as Mr. D'Aurelio's replacement
until another could be found.. The
following year Tammy Menk, then the choir director, shifted gears and
took over the marching band and the concert band. While in charge
of the band, Mrs. Menk believed that band front as a separate
group was unnecessary, and did not audition one. Instead, the
alternate majorette and silk members would carry the banner and American
Flag. Due to a contract situation and
health problems, Mrs. Menk did not return to the marching band in
1998. In fact, no one did. Band Boosters and parents took it
upon themselves to run the band. Once
again, in 1999, the band was under new direction. There was still
a contract issue, so no faculty could run the band. Michael Browse
and Keith Miller took the jobs of directing the band. As
we begin the 2000 season, once again the band is under new
direction. This year, Karen Hinson is the new leader of the
Wildcat Band. Band front has been returned to the band and the
size of the auxiliary has been cut due to the small number of
instrumentalists. Stepping in to help once again, is concert band
director Tammy Menk.
