- Southwark Council have introduced Garden Waste Recycling. Each household has been provided with five Single Use, Biodegradable Paper Bags in which to put any garden waste that you cannot deal with at home, through home composting. The bags can be filled with grass cuttings, tree branches (less than 10cm/4" diameter), garden weeds, plants, flowers, leaves, pruning and hedge trimmings. Keen gardeners, who put garden waste out for collection during the first four weeks will be given a durable, reusable jute bag that should last the whole summer. The bags will be collected fortnightly starting on Tuesday 8th June and finishing on the 23rd November. Do not use the bags for soil, bricks or rubble, large tree branches (more than 10cm/4" diameter), plastic flower pots, trays, bags or food waste. For more information about recycling read the hints and tips we distributed at the end of February.
