Not since the Dutch squad of Cruyff and Neeskens has a team played so well. This was football the way god intended. Nomads tore their opponents apart from the opening whistle with a display of passing that would have brought a tear to the eye of any spectators, had they bothered to turn up. The first goal came just five minutes in, with Tommy Amis continuing his fine scoring run with a cool strike from inside the penalty area. Mark Saunders made it two soon after, bundling the ball over the line from one of Nomads’ many threatening corners. Matt Lammin ended his goal drought by firing past the Blu keeper to make the score 3-0, while Tim Roberts scored his first goal in over a year with a shot into the bottom corner from eight yards. By now Nomads were in total control and an Al Maher header and another Lammin strike put the home side 6-0 up at the break. Goal seven came from half time substitute Steve O’Mahoney with a header from a left footed Lammin cross, while Lammin knocked in the eighth to complete his hat-trick with a close range finish. O’Mahoney grabbed his second with another header, this time from an Amis cross from the left as Nomads moved into previously unchartered territory. The only blip in the game came with a deflected goal for Blu, causing manager Ron to shout something about all the hard working going to waste. Fortunately for Ron, his side managed to stage a comeback and the tenth goal came with from Lammin with his fourth of the game. The final goal, which established a club record winning margin came from another substitute, Richy Fullerton, with his first ever goal in a Nomads shirt. Yet there could have been more. Captain Phil Simmons had a goal disallowed, a Roberts overhead kick brought a fine save out of the keeper, Seddon hit the bar with a chip, O’Mahoney struck both posts (but still celebrated a goal) and a Lucas volley was excellently pushed away for a corner. After a performance so impressive, rumours linking Ron with a move to the vacant managerial role at MK Dons might yet come true.
