A tribute to the first ever winning Nomads team

On a cold winter's day, 1997, eleven brave souls took to the pitch little knowing the way their afternoon would turn out.
With a back four of Iain Havard, Peter Alford, Dan Jenner and Dave Schofield and keeper Paul Hughes, Neston could be forgiven for fancying their chances.

But the rock solid (?) midfield of Tim Jones, Karl Swarbrick, Paul O'Brien and John Gandy, along with super striking duo, Damian Mawdsley and David Hunter soon showed their true Nomad steel and determination.

If that wasn't enough, secret weapon Gareth Eason kept the bench warm, and possibly shouting things every now and then.

Goals from Gandy and O'Brien (with a special woodland celebration) made things interesting before Swarbs' cross somehow found its way into the net. Reporters flocked from across the nation to speak to the plucky Nomads but manager Mawdsley quickly whisked his boys away in a convoy of cars, probably led by the ever dedicated Mrs Eason!
