HISTORY

Ten years ago, a crack commando unit was sent to prison for a crime they did not commit. These men promptly escaped from maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no-one else can help and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the Wirral Nomads.

Keen for Wirral to establish a (second) football team to be proud of, co-founders Matt, Damian and Tim took advantage of this special offer and began training sessions near Phil's house. The original team was formed, mainly comprising members of class 10W, and entry into the South Wirral League Concorde Trophies Division was secured, with two friendlies preceding our first season.

Limited success was achieved in that initial season although obtaining the managerial talent of Mr Colin Willan was a definite high point. A trip to Belgium was the reward for the hard work of those involved. And Lee Sinnot.

The second season began brightly with good results leaving the nomads top early on. Fine performances throughout left the Nomads in a finishing just above their rivals, B*bington Athletic, although some would dispute this. Another trip to Belgium too, we actually did quite well this time.

[To be honest I don't know much about the next season, I only played a few times because of uni and remember we seemed to be the same as the season before]

The following season was the beginning of the dark years. The loss of Colin as manager led to the appointment of John (whose surname escapes me) as his replacement.

We soon became FC Pensby Reserves and very few original Nomads remained. We don't talk about this period.

2002-03 saw the return of the mighty Nomads and several of the original members. Under the fine guidance of Matt Lammin, home games were played at the splendidly maintained Bebington Oval.

We finished somewhere between top and bottom of the table but player unavailability led to the decision to move leagues once again, this time to a Sunday.

After miraculously passing the rigourous vetting procedure we joined the Wallasey Sunday League and now play at Lingham Park, which is miles away in Moreton.

Swarbs left on a Bosman free transfer to another team but was kind enough to donate his two brothers to our very valiant cause. Craig then left to go to uni, as did Pob and Danny. Midway through the season Matt decided to hand the managerial reins to Did Maher, and things have gone from strength to strength since. Except Did quit as manager, Tommy took over, then Ron took over, then Grant was in charge, and now Tommy is back in charge. We're doing quite well too...in fact we won the Division Four title in the Birkenhead Sunday League in 2007-08. We now play in Greasby.
