05/09/03 Wirral Nomads 0 - 4 Irby
Team: Richy, Jon (Steve), Al, Mark, Danny, Sean, Paul, Mark, Craig (Iain), Tim, Matt
ALTHOUGH Nomads slumped to their fourth defeat of the season the match was more notable for several key changes to the personnel. A seemingly meaningless changing room conversation led to the shock, and somewhat controversial, appointment of David "Did" Maher as manager. Rumours quickly circulated among the players that team selection would now be based on willingness to perform sexual favours and the new gaffer did little to discourage them. Rather than choosing to test the Irby keeper, Nomads opted for a first half of trying to lull the opposition into a false sense of security. Or coma. The naive tactics of Did the disciplinarian left Wirral's finest XI with a 2-0 halftime deficit. With Nomads offering more in the second half, the 4-0 end result failed to reflect the balance of play. New manager Did said: "Do one. Shove your match report up your arse." The game was also notable for the final appearances of Danny, Craig and Tim. While both Danny and Craig both moved on Bosman free transfers, Tim has had his contract terminated by mutual consent. Danny has been picked up by Team Bath and Craig has finally had the move of his dreams to Nottingham Forest.
