30/01/05 Old Market 1 Wirral Nomads 3 (Friendly)

Team: Richie, Bob, Lee, Mark, Seddo, Pedro (Matty), Phil, Al, Pollard, Steve (Tommy), Dave.

On arrival we hear from a Young Lady we’re ugly and were playing a premier League team. With that on our minds a few Nomads heads dropped fearing the worst! Especially as big Ron was going to use this match to give some of the fringe players a chance. With Phil the captain missing due to family reasons, Tim unable to attend reason unknown and influential midfielder Tom struggling with injury things weren’t looking good!!

But in true Nomads fashion we took to the field like warriors. Starting the game very much on top, producing some quality football. Within 10 mins Dave skipped passed a player and threaded a left footed through ball into Steve’s path, who then chipped the keeper with Rooney Esc quality. Then just before half time another piece of good football saw Dave and Steve link well again producing a one two which ended with Steve slamming the ball into the bottom corner of the net for his second and nomads second of he day.

After the half time interval the Nomads took there usual 10 mins rest before the ref gave a bad decision against Lee to give them a penalty which made it 2-1. Big Ron changed things taking off Pedro replacing him with Matty who almost scored as soon as he came on but his touch let him down. With 20 mins to go Dave launched a long throw into the box there was a scramble which saw Steve catch the ball in his hands and pass it to Pollard who slotted it passed the keeper making it 3 1. Justice was served after the earlier bad decision. Pollard put the goal down to Tom’s silver boots as he was borrowing them for the game.

At this point the result looked inevitable and the Nomads relaxed a bit and should have had a penalty as steve was hauled down in the box causing the two goal hero to be replaced by Tom. Late on Dave threaded another perfect ball through to Pollard who had only the keeper to beat but the keeper saved well to his right.

In all Ron was speechless and facing a selection headache for the next Nomads game.
