16/11/03 Vineyard 2 Wirral Nomads 4

A good performance from the Nomads as manager Did inspired the lads to victory with the following team talk: “You announce the team Matty, I’m going for a shite. The lads entered the field with this motivational gambit ringing in their ears and soon gave away a penno. Fortunately, the lad spooned it wide and the Nomads could set about building a 3-goal cushion.

First it was leading scorer Sean who lashed home a loose ball at a corner before turning provider as Bald Dave headed in his cross. We needed three attempts to secure the third as Dave and the Pedro’s shots were parried by Charlie from Busted who was playing in goal for them. The Ped-meister finally drove in the second re-bound with his unfavoured right magic white boot.

Vineyard got a lucky goal back as Rob launched the ball away from a corner. On it’s way into orbit the ball struck an unwitting attacker somewhere between his knee and face depending on who you ask and looped back over a stranded Richie and Sean on the near post who jumped as high as he could but could not stop it going in the top corner.

The second half was governed by Tommy and Matt in the midfield. The Nomad’s progress was briefly interrupted by a good strike from their striker but we could have had a bagful - Pedro, Barry and Dave all went close. The victory was sealed by the goal of the game; Matty and Dave worked a string of one-twos all the way up the line and then Matt crossed in for Tommy to power in a header from 6 yards.

Barry made amends for giving away that early pen by winning us one near the end but Tommy sympathetically hit his shot straight at keeps, clearly feeling that three goals in two games would put too much pressure on him in future matches..
