Craigievar Castle
June 17, 2000
Craigievar is a fairy tale-style tower house built between 1610 and 1625-26 by William Forbes. Forbes was the second son of the Bishop of Aberdeen so he did not inherit any property. Instead, Forbes made a fortune by importing wood from the Baltics and built the castle near his family's home, perhaps to show off his success.National Trust Logo
Craigievar Castle The castle still contains all of the family's furnishings and relics, so the property is amazing to tour. Because of the age and condition of the building, only 20 or so guests are allowed on the tour at a time.
