Doune Castle
June 14, 2000
From Peebles, we skirted around Edinburgh toward the Highlands. We took a short detour into Falkirk, got lost, and moved on past Stirling to Doune. Doune is a small village along the River Teith. The castle was built at the end of the 14th century and partially restored in 1883. It is in very good shape for a building over 600 years old. Doune is now owned by Historic Scotland. The castle is semi-famous as the site where Monty Python's Holy Grail was filmed. We looked for a giant wooden rabbit, but didn't see any. Doune Castle
River TeithFrom the top of the castle, you get a great view of the River Teith and the beginning of the Trossachs, a small mountain range that is very similar in appearance to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
