SKYGUARD2: THE APOCRYPHA

BOOK TWO OF THE SKYGUARD AEGIS TRILOGY

WILLIAM MICHAEL CAMPBELL

GENRE: Character-driven "Soft" Science Fiction

Oh Star (the fairest one on sight),
We grant your loftiness the right
To some obscurity of cloud
It will not do to say of night,
Since dark is what brings out your light.
Some mystery becomes the proud,
But to be wholly taciturn
In your reserve is not allowed.
Say something to us we can learn
By heart and when alone repeat.
Say something! And it says, "I burn."
But say with what degree of heat.
Talk Fahrenheit, talk Centigrade,
Use language we can comprehend.
Tell us what elements you blend.
It gives us strangely little aid,
But does tell something in the end.
And steadfast as Keats' Eremite,
Not even stooping from its sphere,
It asks a little of us here,
It asks of us a little height,
So when at times the mob is swayed
To carry praise or blame too far,
We may choose something like a star
To stay our minds on, and be staid.*
Book Two of the Skyguard Aegis trilogy, The Apocrypha, begins just seven months after the end of Book One, The Aegis. Mary, a teenage girl who has been adopted by David and Laura Powell, is now an integral part of the family. Originally diagnosed as having complete amnesia, all attempts to find Mary's parents or determine her past have failed, leading David and Laura to surmise that Mary has been manufactured by the "creators"--the mysterious beings who built the Aegis.
Mary exhibits fluency in at least twenty-three languages and their dialects, and she also demonstrates telepathic abilities. Further abilities begin to emerge as the story unfolds.
Her sexual obsession with David becomes the central focus in her young life but there is a purpose, and her secrets--her apocrypha--are finally revealed at the end.
The Apocrypha describes the Powells' attempts to save all life on the planet from extinction by a group of human-like creatures who exhibit extraordinary mental and physical powers. The Powells are joined by Rachel, a girl who has established a telepathic bond with Mary. Note: Join Rachel as she helps investigate
The Ark of Shekinah.
