Early Spring 2001 Fall of 2000 the large evergreen bushes that were once in front of the house were taken out. What was left was barren ground and stumps, the front yard suffered a slow death with the help of our kids and dogs. What began as something as simple as planting some Mums along the sidewalk and some petunias around our lamp has turned into a two year, all yard project. I started with the idea of creating a sitting area on the north side of the porch.
The ferns were once growing on the north side of the house. With a few years of neglect I found upon inspection that at one time this yard displayed many "mini-gardens" I set out to bring all the plants together in one area. So the ferns found a new home on the north side of my porch, later followed by some Iris' that I found on the south side of the house. With the area complete with my original plans stopping was not an option. I was hooked. Wanting to decorate the area a bit more I decided on a small fountain or pond in the corner where you see the yard tools.
I purchased a whiskey barrel liner, then dug a hole. Dropped in the liner, leveled it out, added my fountain pump. In less than three hours time I had a soothing fountain. I purchased two white begonias and some type of Pink "daisy" at our local grocery store, added some Angels that were once considered Christmas decorations and tossed in some fake ferns for the background.
