2004 Summer Workshop

Writing TAGS - Writing With Excellence! 3-Day Workshop - July 26,27,28!

Day 1 of the workshop is an introductory day covering the basics of Writing TAGS, a system of writing developed by teachers Patti Shaw and Donna Washburn. This training incorporates many of the same methods and processes that we have been teaching forever but does it in a way that really improves student writing. It will focus on the basics of good writing and on preparing students for benchmark tests, open ended response, end of level tests, and other areas where writing is necessary. It fits perfectly with Smart Start, Smart Step, and Next Step as well as other standards driven concepts and methods.

Day 2 expands the writing by moving into the essay with revision. Emphasis is also given to development of content, style, and tone.

Day 3 offers performance assessment ideas that will allow students to take "wings" and "fly." It takes critical thinking and writing to a new level of fun and challenge.

Offered with the workshop are two teacher workbooks that include lesson plans, rubrics, and ideas that help the teacher to implement the writing process. Although the training focuses on teaching writing, the sessions also offer tips on classroom management, starter activities, class procedures, student work ethic, and other ways to garner the time needed for writing in the classroom.

Any teacher in any discipline can attend this writer's workshop and come away better equipped to help students be good writers. Participants will leave this lively workshop with ideas and lessons they can use in the classroom immediately! Don't Miss it!
