Have you gone to
sectional, regional or national tournaments by yourself,
hoping to find a good partner at the partnership desk? Yes?

DAY 1 If your experience has been like mine in the
past, you were matched up with someone who, like yourself, was
hoping to find that "great" partner. Instead it turns
out that he/she really did not know how to play the game as well
as you, and one session told you to look for another pard.

DAY 2
Back to the
partnership desk the next day. This time they paired you with
someone who "talked a good game", thought he was better
than you and "took over" the bidding, commented about
what you did "wrong" after each hand, a general
disaster. No fun.

DAY 3
Back to the partnership desk
for the third day. Today you were a little more discerning and
did not join up with the first or second person they suggested.
Then you were given a "good" player and everything
looked rosy. BUT, that player found out our masterpoint total,
and declined. He/she wanted someone with "more
experience", that is, more masterpoints. (Don't they realize
that the NUMBER of masterpoints does not really indicate the
quality of the player??)

The above scenarios are all too often exactly what happens. Sometimes you DO come up with a good partner who will stick with you for several sessions. But, do you want to spend all that time and money to go to a good tournament and take your chances with bad experiences?
OF COURSE NOT!
How then can
you find a good partner who is willing to play YOUR game with you
and will not try to teach you new things at the table?
