This chill tent uses a GP medium army tent and the existing Mason Jar structure leftover from the GLOM days. The Mason Jar is 30' long by 18' wide and is constructed to resmble a mason jar partially buried in the Playa at an angle (this was used by the GLOM most recently in 2002). The GP medium army tent is 16' x 32' but requires an extra 5-7 feet of space around it for stakes and cordage. Together they require 50' wide by 60' deep space to setup.

The GP medium army tent will be covered by a self-supporting tension structure made from PVC pipes and 3/8" nylon ropes. The main arch will be constructed of a 50' long 1-1/2" PVC pipe with T-connectors every 10 feet. The T-connectors allow 1" PVC pipe runners to be attached to form the mushroom "cap". Both the main Arch and the Runners will be secured to the Playa using rebar and cord. A secondary arch will be set-up over the back of the Mason Jar - the purpose of this arch is to allow attachment of the "gill" ropes and Elwire. This arch may or may not be attached to the Mason Jar. Additional PVC pipes will be laced through the rear of the structure and secured using zip-ties and tape. When finished, the shade cloth covering (with wind vents) will be pulled up over the PVC structure and secured with zip-ties. The last step will be to adorn the mushroom with decorations and Elwire.

The interior of the GP medium tent will be carpeted and lined with loosely draped white cotton lining. 4 mushroom lights with pillows surrounding them will invite guests to mingle. The central area is open to allow more energetic acitivities to take place. Soft music will be playing and the lighting level will be kept low, even during the day. Careful use of venting and shade techniques should keep the tent interior cool, even during the day. A swamp cooler may also be utilized to gain an additional 10-15 degrees of cooling. At least once during the week we plan to open this space up and use it as a dance hall with a guest DJ. During this time, the mushroom lights and pillows will be stored elsewhere.
