Notes for John DeWees:
John Dewees moved from Mispillion, Kent Co. Delaware to Fayette Co PA with his brother Joshua Dewees. John and Robert were both veterans of the Revolutionary War, serving on the Delaware line. Dewees in Dutch means "orphan". (Contact is John C Dawson E-mail backjudge1@centuryinter.net) In PA lived in Springhill Twnshp.

Daniel Dewees says in the beginning of his book that his great grandfather was John Dewees and that his grandfather Isaac U Dewees. He says John and his brother,Robert Dewees married, and settled in PA. He says, his grandfather, John Dewees, married a French lady named Mary Updegrove and settled on a farm near Uniontown, PA and were the parents of Joshua, John, Samuel, William, Sarah and Isaac U.

Per John Dawson: Our Lineage branches out in Jackson County after the arrival of Samuel Dewees (wife Edith) and his brothers' families, William (m. Rachel Batten), Joshua (Anna Peacock & Lucinda Snyder), and Isaac Updegrove Dewees (Catherine Carr - lived in Gilmer, died young and daughters moved to Jackson County). Samuel's and William's families lived near William Casto and Susanna Rollins, and several children married into the Casto's. Likewise, Charles Parsons' son, Moses married a Dewees daughter. I am specifically trying to locate the grave of Grace Casto Rhodes, the daughter of William and Susanna Rollins, who was married to Benjamin Casto Dewees.
