Served (1861): Henry's son, Joseph, was a Civil War veteran who fought under General Robert E. Lee all during the war, according to his daughter, Sarah Electa (Haynes) Nutter. His Captain was said to be one Capt Isaac Greer, but no record has been found of such a soldier, Confederate OR Union.........

Joseph Haynes lived a mile above Russellville. He had a grist mill, saw mill and carding machine. He was a Confederate soldier who lost his life during the Civil War.

OBITUARY: "Mrs. Rebecca Jane Elder died at her home in Maple Creek, Monday, April 15. She was born in Virginia May 22, 1850, and moved to Illinois in 1852. There she was married May 26, 1868, to George W. Elder. In 1872 the family moved to Otoe County, Nebraska and in 1879 to Furnas County where they resided until death removed them. Mr. Elder died two years ago. Both of them were esteemed for their irreproachale characters, and to them is this no small credit for the development of Furnas County. Thirteen children and many grandchildren and other relatives survive them and their priceless inheritance is that of the precept and example of a devoted and faithful father and mother. The funeral services were conducted at the home on Wednesday by Rev. J. G. Russel and the interment was in the cemetery at the Bethel church."
