The third child of John (Black) and Jane Bollar McClung was b. 22 May 1798. He married 1) Nancy Williams 7 Oct 1819 (Gr Mg, 42). They had five children. He md 2) to Mrs. Elizabeth Waites. She was killed by a falling limb. They had no children. He married 3) Nancy Walton and they had 3 children. James died Jan 1862 (Gr D-1853-92)

Nancy WILLIAMS married James MCCLUNG on 1819.

John MCCLUNG [Parents] "Black John" was born 1768. He died 1850. Black John married Jane BOLLAR on 14 Mar 1793.

The first child of William and Abigain Dickinson McClung was b. 10 Jan 1768. He married 1) Jane Bollar 14 Mar 1793 of Bath Co. VA. (LDS film #30620, p.2) She was b. 19 May 1773 to John and Margaret Thornton Bollar in Jackson River; died 9 Sep 1828 (JG=1820). They settled in a log house one mile east of present day Rupert, WV which remains standing today. They had 10 children. He md 2)Hannah M. McMillion 19 Sep 1829 (Gr M,42). Hannah was b. 14 Feb 1795 to John and Rachel (Hutcheson) McMillion. Both of these women were sisters to William (Long Billy) McClung's two wives. John and Hannah had five children. Hannah died 1 Dec 1861 (Gr D, 1853-97)

John was a blacksmith by trade and received his nickname "Black John". He lived one mile east of Rupert, WV. He served as a postmaster for several years. He was fond of hunting. He was a man of medium height and weighed about 180 pounds. He was strong and athletic.

He had 10 children in the first marriage and five in the second. He died 20 July 1850. (AFN:4Z8V-B5)

Jane BOLLAR was born 19 May 1773. She died 9 Sep 1828. Jane married John MCCLUNG on 14 Mar 1793.

The twelfth child of "Black" John and Hannah C. McMillion McClung was b. 18 May 1832. He wore one of the first suits of broadcloth seen in his part of the country; hence his sobriquet. He was a prosperous farmer and resided near Rupert, WV. He married 12 Mar 1856 to Nancy Ann McClung (b. 20 Apr 1837 to Alexander McClung-Curly Alex). Note: he was listed as S. H. on his daughter's death certificate. He was a very propserous farmer and stock raiser of Meadow Bluff, WV. He owned 550 acres on Big Clear Creek. He was a Capt of Co. G, 79th VA Militia, Confederate Army. He was a Justice of peace in Meadow River for 16 years. They settled and lived near Rupert. He died 19 Jan 1915. They both are buried at Hilltop Methodist Cem. ANDREW HUTCHISON McCLUNG - farmer and stock-raiser of Meadow Bluff district, owning 550 acres of valuable land on Big Clear Creek, is a native of Greenbrier County. He was born on Meadow River, May 18, 1832, and he married on Laurel Creek, this county, March 12, 1856. John and Hannah (McMILLIAM) McCLUNG were his parents, and he married Nancy Ann, daughter of Alexander and Elenor (THOMPSON) McCLUNG. She was born in Greenbrier County, April 20, 1857. Their children were born: Onalaska, December 26, 1856, died August 24, 1876; Lenora, January 24, 1859, died October 11, 1865; Leanna Ada, November 7, 1860; Robert Otte, December 23, 1862, died October 5, 1865; Lewis Edgar, April 28, 1865; Paul Hudson, February 24, 1867; Louisa, June 18, 1869, died in infancy; Homer, September 23, 1873; Cary, July 18, 1875. The living children are all at home. The father of Andrew H. McCLUNG was born in Augusta County, Virginia, January 20, 1762, came to Greenbrier County in 1766, and died in this county, July 20, 1850. Hannah, his wife, was born in this county, February 14, 1795, and here died November 30, 1861. William McCLUNG, father of John, was the first settler on Meadow River, locating here in 1766. He took a tomahawk entry for 100,000 acres on Meadow River and its tributaries, and made his home here when the Indians were so troublesome that he plowed with his rifle strung to his shoulder and his wife and three children took refuge in the dense swamp while he was working, only returning to the cabin at night when he was there to defend them. The parents of Mrs. McCLUNG were born in Greenbrier County, her father in 1805, and her mother in 1815, and they are still living here. Andrew H. McCLUNG was captain of Company C, 79th Virginia military, Confederate service, war between the states. He was sixteen years justice of the peace in Meadow Bluff district, and has been for twelve years postmaster at Big Clear Creek P.O., Greenbrier County, West Virginia.
