In season
2001/2002, Wynnum Manly will field both 1st and 2nd grade sides in the
Konica Women's Grade Competition. This is a first for Wynnum and in doing
so we become only the second club in the competition to field women's
teams in both grades. The 1st Grade side boasts numerous representative players at both senior and junior levels. These include; Australian wicketkeeper and Queensland Fire captain - Julia Price, Australian and Queensland Fire top order bat - Sally Cooper, Queensland Fire Allrounders - Heidi Thompson and Megan White, Queensland Fire spin bowler - Angela Farrell, Queensland Under 19 players - Melanie Gramenz and Elly Sponza and Queensland Under 17 players Kim Watt and Lacey Hinze. The 2nd Grade competition is a development one and this is the first season we have entered a team. This side is made up predominantly of schoolgirl players aged 13 years and up. In an attempt to encourage more girls to play grade cricket and to continue in the sport on leaving school, Wynnum Manly has established links with Moreton Bay College, Brisbane Girl's Grammar and Cannon Hill Anglican College. If anybody is interested in playing in any of our teams, please contact the club or just turn up to one of our Thursday training sessions. Training is from 4:00 to 5:30 pm for 2nd Grade and 5:30 onwards for 1st Grade. Several fundraising and social events are held throughout the season which provides a great opportunity to mix with the other Wynnum Manly teams. |
