Regarding Spurgin Bad Boy Oil Cooler Kerry writes:

They run about $275.00. It sounds a little steep until you get the cooler in your hands. Everything is top notch, bullet-proof, even the lines and fittings are the best that can be found. Thermostat is built into the adapter. It is very simple in design and it works superbly. Spurg even includes a billet oil line clamp that is second to none. . . Regarding an X1 Tank Mask:

I have the Buell one, Its called the Phantom Tank Mask for the X1. Its a soft, black leather look, vinyl, protects against scratches from jackets. Kind of a pain to put on, I took my tank cover off to put mine on. It has a Blue Pegasus on it which doesn't really go with the yellow, but its OK. I think it lists for $40.00. Its attached with glue patches and I'm wondering, what it will be like to take off. But I'm certain over time my tank would get scratched with out it. I need to take some pictures of my bike, when I do I'll scan one and send it. gb

Tire Wars : After rippin up 4 rears and 2 fronts of the Dunlop 205 variety I decided on a set of the BT57s from Bridgestone . Initial report is these things GRIP and RIP !!! They are most sure footed tire I've had under me since switching to Buells . I'll keep you posted on the wear , was only getting about 6K out of the 205's on the rear and about 10K on the fronts

Got a reply today from Rick at Bullett and he said the
bullett slip on muffler fits the X1 and clears the chin
fairing. Black is $150.00 with free shipping in the USA.

FYI: I added a Vance & Hines to my X1 about 3 weeks ago and the
performance increase has been well worth the money and 45 min.
it took me to install it. The downside has been the no idle
when cold (1st 5 min.)and backfire(lots and at all rpm). The
first thing I thought was there must be a problem with the
O2 sensor,or the ECM (a little joke). Anyway I exited the
breathers out of the air-box to under the rear of the bike.
I finished up with a crankcase air filter from Fram #ba3812.
Big difference, I dont think the FI liked the venting at all
and if you change your exhaust, change the venting with it.
I did look into the crank vent, couldn't part with the money.

Dana--I trimmed about 3/4's of an inch off the bottom of the tail
piece and put the top tag screws inside the storage area. Put a
license frame with LED's in it for a redundant tail light.
Small change but very noticable!--Getting to the top bolts
inside the tailpiece is tough. Solve the theft problem-I also
just got done installing a Thunderpage alarm in the X1-Works great!

I've recently bought an X1 Lightning and heard of a few people
installing s3t handle bars for added comfort.
Are any changes to the wiring or hydraulic lines needed
    to install these bars?
    Thanks for any replys.

Peter: S3T bars fit the X1. All wiring, throttle and idle cables are
the same as well as the brake line. You will have to reroute some of
the wiring behind the bars (especially the clutch switch) but everything
works. Also, the S3T bars control locating holes will have to be
redrilled to properly locate your grips, master cylinder and clutch.
Easiest way is to wrap the new bars with masking tape, install the
controls and just snug up the screws. When you remove the controls
the precise location to drill the bars for the locating pin will be
easy to see dimpled into the tape. Get a new left side grip to make it
easier too! Was well worth the effort and fits Luanne's riding
    style perfectly.

Hey guy! The good news is that it can be done. The bad news is that the
software to re-map the ECM is not readily available yet. I am going to a
meeting with Erik Buell in Febuary and he and I have already talked about
it once before. When I know, everybody will know. The ECM is the limiting
factor. I will keep you posted though because last time I talked to Erik
he mentioned us doing some R&D on the X1. Hope I helped!
    Thanks and God bless.

Just spent the afternoon installing my V & H carbon fibre
muff on my X1...the bracket positioned the muff in a downward
angle..def not parallel with the shock can...jumped on the M2
(38 degrees) and blasted to the shop for mods..also gave me a
chance to re-acquaint myself to the broken-in Alum V&H
    sound..hiway allowed speed to 110..feels good again..finished
installation and went for a blast..Comin' off a light, clutch
already out..on the gas hard..IT STOOD UP..it never did that
before..what a freakin' blast..hesitation still exists at steady
throttle..BUT I DON'T DO THAT TOO OFTEN NO MORE..5 hours later
I'm still giddy..can't wait for a NEW MODULE..

re: Vance and Hines Exhaust for the X1

Hi Chris..ya..the X1 was the one that stood [ he means throttle
only wheelies] ..makin' me laugh thinkin' about it!!. . . I'm
definately happier with the performance of the X1..still needs
a new map on that FI though. These shitboxes seem to need alot
of fuel to be happy...so, I can only imagine what a "fat" map
would do.....do the pipe..you'll be happy..what pipe you thinkin'
about? This c/f V&H looks the balls...shortened up the rear
mount by at least 2"...looks more pro..bike also looked pretty
mean without chin spoiler!..already threw away all rear wheel
plastic,belt/sprocket crap... "nothin' " is lighter and cheaper
than carbon fibre..makes bike look "lighter"..might keep it
off...let me know what you get and how it goes!

Chris: re missing X1 tank mount tabs

...mine are also missing...Manchester HD (NH) had to replace
tank on my X1 due to faulty vent line causing collapse of fuel
cell..i had removed the cover myself..trying to find out why
cap was now 1/2 inch below cover...when i went to dealer and
inspected other bikes, i realized i was missing 2 mounts...
dealer made calls to Buell...was told export models needed
to meet additional regulations..so...earlier models don't have
    mount...
F.I. Woes...e@mailed Dynojet..new module is used in conjunction
    w/ stock module..no price yet...
New V & H carbon fibre due this week...wonder how bad it will
    run now?
Last trip to dealer cost me $260 for speeding ticket testing
the new tank and pump...anyone have a fix for the wildly
    optimistic speedo...shows 140 @ 6000..don't feel it..think
    maybe 125 - 130...anyone?
Carbon cover is $450..chin spoiler $325..nothin' weighs
    less...costs less too!

    Dear Sir:
We just received an X1 yesterday, the preliminary dyno result passed
across my desk today. At 3,500 RPM our slip on produced 10 more ft.lbs
over stock, and 8 more horsepower, maintaining this result throughout
the rev range. R&D will continue throughout the week as the biggest
problem is recalibration of the fuel injection. As the results are being
finalized I will have a dyno sheet for you at a later period. Please
    be patient.
Your message has been forwarded to my supervisor, Ed Tejeras, at

I got my "The Road Ahead" newsletter from Buell today.
Says they have a carbon fiber tank cover P# 61598-99Y
and chin fairing ready to go. No prices shown. I am
waiting for the right combination of performance parts
before I buy parts for looks though.

    X1 Frame Defect

X1 owners should check the front most section of the
tank cover for missing frame tabs. What? Yes, my
frame is missing two metal tabs that all the other
X1s in the dealership have. They are about 1 inch
wide and 1 inch tall. These tabs are welded to the
top of the frame. The tank cover has bolts that run
through the cover and through the tabs. These tabs
keep the front of the fuel cell and its cover from
bouncing up and down at certain RPMs. My tabs are
missing and the entire fuel cell assembly bounces off
the frame at low RPMs. My dealer is having a machine
shop fabricate something to fix the problem, and Buell
is going to reimburse them. I have an earlier X1,,, #286.

Chris!! thanks for your email!! Got some great stuff for the X-1!!!
Our Racewinder Ram Air is just being finsished up for the X-1 and
will be ready to ship this week. We also have the Streetgfighter Race
pipe a complete race header for the X-1. We also carry Vance and Hines
for the X-1 also. I'll send over some attachments for you!! Get back
with me with any questions on pricing, performance etc. thanks much!!!

Also our pipes are available with Jet Hot coating [I almost forgot
to tell you!!!} We are working on carbon fiber trim pieces that will
go on the "tank" and make it look "factory" after installing the
Racewinder. the Force sidewinder/Forcewinder will be ready shortly
too for the X-1. as we are working on the sensor cover now!! should
be a good year for the X-1 owners!! Dynojet's remappping kit should
be avail shortly too!!! Stay tuned!!!!

Chris thanks for your email [ again] !! All we have right now is
the dyno testing we've done on the '98's as we'll be doing the
'99 's nest week if the Buells stock sensors will cooperate. You
[WE] are gonna need a reamapping kit from Dynojet [ email Mike
Daniels at Dynojet for info] in order to get the '99 fuelies to
run right with aftermarket modifications. I will guarantee you
this though, our Streetfighter Race Pipe will out perform
all of the exhausts on the market on the carb Buells and the
same specs were incorporated into the fuelie pipes!!! Wait for
the nest issue of Battle2win to come out in about 3 weeks and see
what they have to say about it. but we can make you a smokin deal
on a Vance and Hines if you'd like!!! Keep in touch and we'll keep
you posted on the latest developments in the Buell
exhausts. Thanks again for your interest , , , and
    keep in touch!!! Johnny

Chris!!! Sorry this took so long gettin back to you but our seever
went down and all our mail got messed up but I think everything is
going ok now!!! Form our experience with the x-1s so far you WILL
need a remapping kit for the fuel injection to make any aftermarket
mods to the intake or exhaust work properly!! Dynojet, and I hear
Vance and Hines are both working on such kits and should be avail
able shortly. Meanwhile are Racewinder RAM AIR and the Forcewinder
are just being finished up to work on the fuel injection. We've done
the X-1 pipe but without being able to recalibrate so much acn be
expected! But with the kits WATCH OUT!! Johnny
