This is the brusk truck for the Goshen Fire Dept. in Goshen, NH.

I wonder if I can fit that grill guard on my XJ?
|
It even has a winch! Its a large PTO winch.
|
How would you like to see that coming at you in your rear view
mirror?
|
Heavy closed knuckle front axle.
|
My XJ as I bought it. Read a little more about it on the My
Vehicles page.
|
A view from my first trail trip with my newly purchased XJ. This
is also the same day I finished installing the 3" lift.
|
My XJ up on a ledge.
|
Another shot of the ledge.
|
Just playing here, to see how the lift flexes. |
Pictures never do justice...it looked cooler in person. Isn't
that always the way? |
My first mud crossing... |
...and the XJ did well. It was slimy under the water, but it made it. |
I was talked into playing on a trail after class one day... |
...and I got stuck for the first time! The 31" Uniroyals
suck in the mud- |
-and it didn't help that there were ruts and I high centered. |
Luckily a Toyota pickup came along while we were working on
getting it out...he pulled us out without a problem just after this
picture was taken. |
About a year after the last pictures were taken I did my first
real four wheeling. I did a few little modifications to increase
flex...and even the little 215/75/15 tires rubbed the inner
fenderwell! |
I plan to do a little more modifying to increase droop.
|
And only a couple days after playing on the trail I had to tow
this van. The XJ handled it without a problem! |
It was a pretty large load for an XJ, but the rear disk brakes
really helped stopping, and with the Dodge springs, the rear of the
XJ didn't even sag. |
My newly purchased (at the time) '86 Samurai. I went to school
with a bunch of flatlanders who drove Hondas and Acuras...I was very
entertaining to them.
|
Kids need to play, right?
|
I was living in a city at the time, and wanted to see how the
Sammy articulated...this was the best place I could find. And the
Samurai failed the test.
|
A Vette being pulled by a REAL vehicle...yea, right...
|
 |
The start of my low buck snorkel.
|
Just cut the hole...
|
run the Sears Shop-Vac hose behind the battery... |
...and plug it into the airbox like it was made for it. Seal
around the lid, and its water tight! |
Zip-tie it in place for that professional touch... |
and find the deepest water you can! O.K., not very deep, but it
was close by, and lots of fun. |
 |
I got a little carried away and got stuck on the ice. |
That's what friends are for! |
Just a little push did the job. You have to love 2000 lb. 4x4s! |
| |
|
|
|
I did play on real trails with the Samurai. It was hung on the
ice and wouldn't move. |
Ford to the rescue! My friend didn't quite make it to me. |
He slid back into this nice ravine. I had already driven down it
and backed out (notice the narrow tire tracks behind the truck) |
He wasn't going anywhere for a while. Oh well, walk back to his
house for the night, and crack open some beers. |
After he got pulled out the next morning... |
...he came in and pulled me out. |
Then it was my turn when he got to some mud. |
Stock Sammy, stock tires, and a snorkel...as you can see there is
a reason for it!
|
Unfortunately it doesn't help when high centered.
|
Acme Portable Samurai...just pick it up and carry it with you!
|
Here is the poor Sammy on its final outing. It has 33"
Swampers with NO LIFT! They barely touched the fenders when
twisted. Sawz-Alls are cool! |
My '92 YJ with CJ nose.
|
Other than the nose, its bone stock. It may have the full
cage in these pics though.
|
The same Jeep after a couple quick mods and some partially worn
33" Swampers.
|
My Tensen 12,000 lb. electric winch is also mounted.
|
Considering the suspension was mostly stock, and it flexed
decently, I'm surprised the 33s didn't rub.
|
Here is a decent shot of the full cage I built. |
Same Jeep after a spray can paint job. I had removed the
winch for New Hampshire legal reasons. I built the simple
front bumper shortly before this pic was taken.
|
Those ledges were very icy! We could barely walk on them. |
Carnage at that point was limited to a broken shock and
exhaust... |
...until the rear axle pinion yoke exploded at this exact
time! Notice front tires spinning, rear aren't? |
And this is how it sits now. I have quite a few more pictures of
this Jeep, but I'll wait until I separate this page into categories. |
Good shot of my Grand Wagoneer in action. It was used to
tow heavy loads, but also did a little light to moderate 4-wheeling. |
My Toyota pickup. It survived this swamping, and even drove
home afterwards. |
In this shot you can see the snorkel that went on right after I
swamped the truck. Snorkel worked great! |
Another of my Samurais, right after painting. |
And this is a week later. |
'85 CJ-7. Fresh from an overnight camping trip. |
There is something about red vehicles...they always seem to end
up on their sides. |
That washout is actually pretty deep. To the right of the
Jeep (left of the picture) is a LONG steep drop I was trying to keep
away from. |
This is right after the roll. Not much damage, just a
slight dent on the passenger fender. |
My second Samurai. I had a lot of fun with this one, and
won some trophies with it. Those trophies are a second and
third place in the modified class. I let my friend Tony run it
in the stock class, where he took first. |
