Information about club activities
Monthly Evening Meetings
Club evenings are held on the third Tuesday
of every month * at 7.30 pm at the
Kelston Community Centre,
corner of Great North Road and Awaroa Road
(map,
map2).
* Except: December – second Tuesday; and January – no meeting.
Tramping Trips
Day tramping trips are held every Sunday,
meeting outside the Post Shop in Glenmall Place, Glen Eden
(map,
map2)
and leaving at 8:30 am unless otherwise stated in the
programme.
Introductory tramping trips are
held approximately once a month, leaving at 9:30 am from
outside the Post Shop in Glenmall Place, Glen Eden
(map,
map2)
unless otherwise stated in the
programme.
A weekend tramping trip is organised approximately every 4 – 6 weeks.
Meeting arrangements are communicated by the trip leader
to participants. Weekend trips do not leave from Glenmall Place.
Before we set out on any tramping trip, we record a list of
participants and leave it with a contact.
There is sometimes a requirement for a certain level of
physical fitness for maximum enjoyment.
Trips are not graded as difficult or otherwise as
this is open to personal interpretation.
Check with the person leading the trip.
For weekend and overnight backpacking trips ask the
trip leader about individual requirements for
equipment, food etc. as some may be on a group basis.
Wednesday Evening Walks
West Auckland District Tramping Club holds evening walks on
Wednesday evenings when
New Zealand daylight saving time
is in effect.
The meeting point for each Wednesday evening walk is given in the
programme. Wednesday evening walks generally start at 7:00 pm,
unless otherwise stated in the
evening walks programme.
Wednesday evening walks are up to 2 hours long.
What to bring on a day tramping trip
- Lunch (including drink) & extra eats (scroggin) to nibble at during the day.
- Waterproof raincoat or parka.
- Woollen/polarfleece jersey/bushshirt and a hat of some kind.
- Footwear; boots are desirable though not essential.
Sandshoes or training shoes will do for a start.
A plastic bag for dirty footwear is handy as many drivers
do not appreciate muddy boots in their car.
- A plastic bag or pack liner. As no pack is waterproof,
a plastic bag will keep the contents dry.
It is a good idea to pack clothing in a plastic bag as well.
- Carry your own medication for any allergies i.e asthma etc.,
and if you have a medical condition please let the leader know.
