Albany Ramble — 28th April 2002
Written by Ronelle
It was drizzling slightly as I left home and with Bruce
being away with over twenty members down at Tongariro
I did not expect another twenty-nine on the Albany Ramble.
Obviously, our members enjoy the odd easy day!
The whole party (in wet-weather gear) started down
the hill of the Albany Reserve track. The clay track
surprised many and before long, Judith became a casualty,
after falling and dislocating her elbow. As usual, there
were several nurses available, as well as Carroll, to
give first aid and the necessary manpower to assist her
back up the track to the car for Peter to take her
to A&E. We finished the track and road bashed back to the
cars to proceed to Gill’s Reserve.
We crossed the stream and ventured into the bush and it
was a most pleasant track, even though we made an
unplanned short detour. It was also interesting to not find
the three pink ribbons I had tied on trees during my recce,
which resulted in a different route being taken than that
planned. However, we got down again, then across the river
to follow the estuary to Wharf Road and over to the
university campus. Onward up the hill to the cemetery and
back to Albany’s village. Needless to say, 90% of us
indulged in coffees before heading home!
