high power TV &
low power radio
I don't have a cable tv, and all I can catch on my screen are national tv channels like NBC, ABC... whatever their names are. Ok, I have PBS (LPB) too, but that's a different story. They can put Lawrence Walk Show and Austin City Limits, one after another. Anyhow, PBS deserves special attention which will be skipped here. PBS, somehow, goes out of the scope of this Box's topic. National channels are owfully bad. Terrible morning programs, mediocre shows like Rosie O'Donnel, Ansley what's his name, not to mention Jerry Spriinger and stuff like that. Then, soap operas, bad sit coms and informative program which offends inteligent people. Pretty bad, huh? Television is now a dangerous place, not only for kids, but for the adults also. It is does not educate, it's not pluralistic... Specially, local news are polished and bloodless. We see things dying here in Baton Rouge. Cinemas and places for culture are closing down, two nearest groceries to my place closed down too. There are no explanations in local media. Why those things are happening how can people prevent that? I wonder if there are people who deliberately want small vital local media out of our eyes, just so they can do things besides our backs. In this special issue of my music box we will discuss media... How can we make high power TV a little better, and we will try to determine what is the importance of low power radio... I had a pleasure observing two excelent diversions on US national tv in April 2000. Accidentaly, carriers of both of these events are already mentioned in previous issues of Zaba's Music Box. I'm talking about Phranc appereance on Donny and Marrie Show and Amanda Jones appereance on Jenny Jones Show. For easier reading I separated different stories we discuss here... |
