Who's Who in Malaysian Buddhism

Ven. Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda Nayaka Maha Thera, fondly known as the "Chief", has undoubtedly done more for Buddhist missionary work in Malaysia than any other monks or organizations, especially amongst the English-speaking community. Born in Sri Lanka on March 18, 1919, he was ordained as a full-fledged monk in 1940. He came to Malaysia in 1952 and since then he has been working hard to spread the Buddha Dhamma in Malaysia also other parts of the world. His latest contribution is a series of video presentation titled INTRODUCING BUDDHISM.

VEN. CHUK MOR is the chief abbot of the Triple Wisdom Hall in Penang.Any study on the modern development of Buddhism in Malaysia will be incomplete without the mentioning of two names. One of them is of course Ven. Dharmananda and the other is none other than Ven. Chuk Mor. Ven.Chuk Mor was born in China in 1913 and was fully ordained as a monk in 1928. He has settled down in Malaysia since 1953. He  was the first chairmanof the Malaysian Buddhist Association. He also founded the Malaysian Buddhist Institute. Besides being a prolific writer, he is also a well-known artist internationally.

VEN. KIM BENG had served as the chairman of the Malaysian Buddhist Association for many years before he gave up the post. He played very important role in getting the Malaysian government to declare Wesak day as a public holiday for the whole country. He is also a prolific writer.

VEN. CHIP HONG is the present chairman of the Malaysian Buddhist Association. He is the chief abbot of a Buddhist Temple in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. He is also a well-known Chinese physician.
